Cell Model Activity
Modeling the Cell as a System
Directions: With a partner, create a model of a system that can be analogous to the cell.
Your model MUST include analogies of the following organelles:
 Nucleus
 Cell wall
 Cell membrane
 Chloroplast
 Mitochondria
along with at least 2 other organelles from the following list:
 Endoplasmic Reticulum
 Ribosome
 Vacuole
 Lysosome
 Golgi Apparatus
Visual Component: Draw/use pictures to a representation of the system. The model should be
labeled with the name of the part of the object, along with the corresponding cell organelle.
Writing Component: Using CER, explain how/why the system you chose is analogous to the
cell. Make sure to discuss the function of each component of the system and the corresponding
to organelle (evidence), and why you chose that part to represent the organelle (reasoning).
Sample Claim: ___________ can be used to model the cell as a system.
Due: ________________, worth a lab/quiz grade.
