Chapter 13 – The Cardiovascular System
Chapter Preview
The cardiovascular system includes the blood, the fluid that is the transport medium for the body; the
heart which pumps blood and the blood vessels. This chapter deals with the anatomy and physiology of the heart –
the pump of cardiovascular system as well as the 60,000 miles of vessels that blood is transported through. Using
blood as the transportation medium, the heart propels nutrients, respiratory gasses, wastes and many other
substances throughout the blood vessels to and from the tissues of the body.
