GUIDING QUESTIONS BY DAY for WEEK 2 SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP
DAY 1/ HOURS 2-4: What structures make up Planet Earth? What are models and
how can we make models of the Earth? How would a model of the moon be
different? What is a system and how do the structures of Earth make it a system?
What does the Earth system do and what parts are important for it to function?
HOURS 3&4 What are some destructive and constructive forces that change the
surface of our planet? What are tectonic plates and how can they be both destructive
and constructive forces in the shaping of the Earth’s surface?
DAY 2: How is a cave a system showing destructive and constructive forces at work
together? Hour 2: How are rocks changed and cycled by destructive and constructive
forces? How are fossils formed and how can we put them in order according to age?
DAY 3: What is the hydrosphere and what is it like? How does the sun’s heat energy
make air and water move in currents? How do salinity and density affect water
movement? How is water a force of change on Earth? How does the Earth and
Moon system affect oceans?
DAY 4: What is the source of energy for the water cycle and what are the steps in the
water cycle? What happens to the properties of water as it is heated and cooled?
What are the states of matter and how does matter change state? How does the water
cycle renew fresh water?
DAY 5: How can we measure how much it has rained? How can we measure
temperature change? How do the properties of a soil or ground cover affect its ability
to retain water and control run-off?
