Question (a)
To help Lance the president of the student Council body on his quest to motivate student
leaders in three school communities to demonstrate effective leadership, I would choose figure 3.
The chart is depicting in my opinion a leader that has a clear vision, but at the same time he in
cooperates each member of the team. The figure illustrated the leader not at the head of the line
but still in control because of his size against the followers. This shows the strength and
capability of the leader. Based on John C. Maxwell’s law of respect “People naturally follow
leaders stronger than themselves”, this figure demonstrated this. The leader seems to be
influencing a group of individuals towards achieving a common goal base on how he is pointing.
To become effective in student leadership, the students have to have confidence in their
leader. Knowing that he/she will take a stand and defend them. Their leader will focused on
change and the vision, with the goal of enhancing both him/herself along with the students’ body
performance.
Question (b)
Figure 1
This figure in my opinion illustrated an autocratic leadership. Base on how the leader is
facing the group, demonstrated him given commands. The figure showed the leader not being a
part of the group. It also showed lack of involvement from the group. The figure shows one sided
communication. The leader speaks and the group seems to be only listening, which shows his
authority.
Recommendations:
1. This leadership style caused people to tend to become lazy and undependable, so getting
them involve will keep them occupied because they will feel like their input is relevant.
2. Because the leader dictates roles to team members, this can cause frequent results in
hostile attitudes from the group. The leader needs to allow members to voice their
concern and this will make them more tolerance.
Figure 2
This figure in my opinion shows an autocratic leadership. This leader standing on an
arrow while the followers are just carrying him, shows that the leader had all the control. It
depicts that the leader sending a clear message that it’s his way or no other way. The figure
shows a leader running a tight ship by planning, organizing, directing and controlling the efforts
of the group.
Recommendations:
1. The use of power and authority are essential to maintaining order and high productivity.
As a leader to get the work done the leader has to use authority and this is good in some
case.
2. In this leadership style sometimes people are attack instead of the problem and leaders
looks for a scapegoat when things go wrong. This is not fair and as leaders had taken on
everything then mistakes should be a part of it.
Figure 3
Recommendations:
1. The roles of democratic followers include willingness to take personal responsibility
for the group or organization, willingness to be held accountable for their actions and
decisions. This shows the followers will accept the consequences when mistakes are
made.
2. Leader may asked persons in the group their opinion on important matters but may
eventually do exactly what he/she thinks is appropriate. This shows good leadership,
sometimes a leader just has to make the final decision.
