The students will utilize
the computer to watch
an online video about
the circulatory system
which is available from
www.kidshelath.org.
After viewing the video,
The students will
complete a Venn
diagram comparing and
contrasting the
information from the
video with their own
observations.

use in a song/rap that
they will create and
perform.
Discuss the term heart rate
and model how to calculate
heart rate. After modeling,
the teacher will facilitate
guided practice by having
the students work in
partners. Each pair will
calculate each other heart
rate during various activities
(running, walking, jumping,
sitting, etc) The pairs will
record the data collected on
a graph.
Review “heart
healthy” foods.
Divide the group into
two teams to play the
Heart Healthy Family
Feud. One
representative from
each team will come
to the front of the
room. The teacher
reads a
statement/question
from the heart healthy
card stack. The
student who thinks
he/she knows the
answer can ring the
appropriate team bell
and provide the
answer to the teacher.
If no one answers,
correctly, the original
participants can tag a
teammate for
assistance. The team
with the most healthy
heart points wins.
Create a clay model
of the heart using
modeling clay.
Students can use any
classroom resources
(displays, their own
notes, observations,
etc.) to create their
model. The students
will label the
components of their
model to demonstrate
their understanding
of the heart.
