Homework project : St Michael’s CE Primary School (Year 5 – Autumn 1st half-term 2008) Name Date: Project outline, including vocabulary to be learned or researched 1. Produce a story-box to reflect story or book of their choice. It must be imaginative, colourful and well presented. The story–box must be assembled week-by-week and presented during the last week before half-term. Produce complementary booklet with the writing exercises provided below, a synopsis, and review of the book. Add pictures as you wish. NB: Use the sentence types taught in class to help improve your work when appropriate throughout your project. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Vocabulary and spelling work: 3 (a) Using the columns (see overleaf); find several synonyms using a thesaurus for the following words; learn how they are spelt, and use as many as possible within the writing exercises required within this project. You will be tested randomly on these during this half-term. Verbs: 1. get/got - e.g. collect. 2. say/said – e.g. mention 3. walked – e.g ambled. Adjectives: 4. pretty – e.g. enchanting 5. ugly – e.g. unattractive 6. interest-ing/ed – e.g. fascinating NB: Check the meaning of the words carefully to ensure they are used in the correct context. Insert characters ensuring design/artwork reflects their personalities or theme of story. Brainstorm the character traits of your protagonist. You will be provided with a problem for your character to solve by your teacher. Write a descriptive extract (1 A4 page) that shows how your character might overcome this problem.
