Notes on the Layers of the Earth: Draw this graph to help with your studying- Layer CRUST MANTLE CORE Location & Description -Outside layer -thinnest under ocean -thicker under continents -crust + top of mantle= lithosphere Density -least dense of all layers -Middle layer -Thickest of all layers -Top portion called asthenosphere -more dense the deeper it gets -Inner layer -has two parts: inner core/outer core -heaviest and most dense layer Layer composition -oceanic crust=dense basalt -continental crust= less dense granite Solid rock overall -hot soft rock -Made of iron and magnesium -outer core=slow flowing liquid -inner core=solid -Made of iron and nickel
