Concepts –
be able to trace the path of blood throughout the body, using the names of the blood
vessels we learned.
be able to tell the structural and physiological differences between arteries, veins and
capillaries.
be able to trace the path of blood through the structures of the heart. Know the cardiac
cycle and the nervous control of this.
know the conduction system of the heart, how it is influenced and how it functions.
know the overall function of the cv system, and how it accomplishes this function
know the different types of cv disease, causes and treatments if discussed.
know the composition of blood, types of blood cells, formation, and functions.
know the clotting mechanism
be able to distinguish the structures identified in the cat and in our handouts.
Essays:
1. Trace the path of blood through the heart and through the body. Be
complete!! I will be looking for terminology of the heart structures,
veins and arteries, as well as general knowledge. You need to include
the names of the primary arteries and veins associated with the heart,
lungs, and branches of the aorta and vena cavas. It isn't necessary to
cover hepatic portal circulation, or to go into detail on legs, arms.
Just the major artery and vein associated with legs, arms, head, and chest.
2. Outline blood composition, including plasma (including components of plasma)
and formed elements. For each formed element describe structure
including example drawing, function, and relative abundance in the blood.
