Define Cardiorespiratory Endurance: The ability of the body to work continuously for
extended periods of time
What are the benefits of Cardiorespiratory?

Aerobic vs. Anaerobic
Aerobic – continuous activity that requires large amounts of oxygen
Aerobic means “with oxygen”
Aerobic strengthens the heart, organs, and lungs
Type of aerobic exercises: rowing, running, swimming, cross-country skiing, etc.
Define Maximal Oxygen Consumption (VO2max): the largest amount of oxygen your body
is able to process during strenuous aerobic exercise.
Anaerobic – activity that requires high levels of energy and is done for only a few seconds or
minutes at a high level of intensity.
Anaerobic means “without oxygen”
Anaerobic strengthens higher levels of muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.
Type of anaerobic exercises: sprinting, fast break, and stretching.
The Circulatory and Respiratory System consist of: Consist of the heart, lungs, blood and
blood vessels.
Lists the Parts for the following:
The Heart
Hemoglobin – an iron rich compound in the blood that helps carry the oxygen
Stroke Volume – the amount of blood pumped per beat of the heart
The heart beats an average of __72________ times per minute.
The Blood Vessels
Arteries – vessels that carry blood (oxygenated )from the heart to the major extremities – such
as the arms, legs and head
Capillaries – delivers oxygen and other nutrients to individual cells
Veins – deliver the blood back to the heart (deoxygenated blood)
Name three functions of the Respiratory System:

Define Blood Pressure – The force of the blood in the main arteries

Systolic Pressure – top number measures the greatest pressure point
Diastolic Pressure – bottom number measures lowest point, heart relaxes
