Opening Song: “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace!
Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! Oh, fix me on it, mount of God’s unchanging love.
Here I find my greatest treasure; hither, by Thy help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.
Oh, to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, oh, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.
Greeting
One of our Anglican bishops taught us about this special time of fellowship. Since we are partners in worship, we briefly
greet those around us and enter into worship with a sense of community and friendship. Please sit near others, say hello
and shake a few hands! We are here to celebrate!
Announcements
Fr. Brian or Fr. Don will point out noteworthy events. Announcement reels play on the screen before and after the service.

Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins.
His mercy endures forever.
The Collect for Purity
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse
the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and
worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, shine Your Light upon us
The Collect of the Day
The Collect is a collection of the prayers of God’s people. This prayer asks God to prepare our hearts to love Him and
praise Him properly and it changes every week to match the overall theme of the Sunday. Saying this collecting prayer
also unites us in worship with the 78 million Anglicans worldwide who are also saying this same prayer today.

The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Let us pray.
Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which
gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Scripture Lessons
The Bible is at the heart of our worship, because in it we read and understand the very words of God. Every word in the
Bible has come from God and is vitally important so that we can know His heart and His truth. Each week during our
service, we read a section of the Old Testament, a Psalm, a section from the New Testament, and a reading from the
Gospels. If you do not have your own Bible, we would like to give you one as a free gift – please speak to a clergy member
or an usher.
Old Testament Lesson: Joshua 5:9-12

Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt.” So that
place has been called Gilgal to this day. 10 While the Israelites were camped at Gilgal on the plains of
Jericho, they celebrated Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the first month. 11 The very next
day they began to eat unleavened bread and roasted grain harvested from the land. 12 No manna
appeared on the day they first ate from the crops of the land, and it was never seen again. So from that
time on the Israelites ate from the crops of Canaan. The Word of the Lord.

Psalm: 32
1 Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!
2 Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt,
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
3 When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.
4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.

My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.
The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD.
So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him!
Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!
Epistle Lesson: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21
16
So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ
merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who
belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 18 And all of this is a
gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of
reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting
people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s
ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to
God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made
right with God through Christ. The Word of the Lord.

Gospel Hymn: “Softly and Tenderly"
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me;
Patient and loving, He's waiting and watching, watching for you and for me.
Come home, come home; ye who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Luke.
Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Gospel: Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32
Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. 2 This made the Pharisees
and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with
them! 3 So Jesus told them this story: 11“A man had two sons. 12 The younger son told his father, ‘I want
my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.
13
“A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he
wasted all his money in wild living. 14 About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the
land, and he began to starve. 15 He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his
fields to feed the pigs. 16 The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs
looked good to him. But no one gave him anything. 17 “When he finally came to his senses, he said to
himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I
will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, 19 and I am no
longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’ 20 “So he returned home to
his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and
compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. 21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned
against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’ 22 “But his father said
to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and
sandals for his feet. 23 And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, 24 for this
son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.
25
“Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and
dancing in the house, 26 and he asked one of the servants what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother is back,’ he
was told, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.’
28
“The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him, 29 but he replied,
‘All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all
that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. 30 Yet when this son of
yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!’
31
“His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is
yours. 32 We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He
was lost, but now he is found!’” The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to You, Lord Christ.
Gospel Hymn Continued: “Softly and Tenderly"
O for the wonderful love He has promised, promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me.
Come home, come home; ye who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!
The Sermon
From the earliest days of the Christian Church, the reading of Scripture has been followed by a teaching (or sermon) to help
the believers understand how the Scriptures help us live our Christian lives. Throughout the year at Christ Church, you will
hear sermons from Fr. Brian and Fr. Don or from our Deacon, Dee.
Nicene Creed
This is a statement of our Christian belief that was written by an early counsel of Christians in Nicaea who wanted to create a
simple statement of true Biblical Christianity. Note, the word “catholic” refers to the universal Christian church.
Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible
and invisible.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God
from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was
incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance
with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will
come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness
of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
The Prayers of the People
This is a time for group prayer as well as personal prayers. Please prayerfully respond to the leader with the words in bold
type. And please add your own prayers of thanksgiving and intercession either silently or aloud when invited to do so.
Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Help us to fulfill your great commission; making disciples of all nations; teaching them to obey all that you
have commanded. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Give grace, heavenly Father, to all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, and especially to Foley Beach, our
Archbishop; Keith Andrews, our Bishop; Fr. Brian and Fr. Don, our Priests; and Dee Renner our Deacon,
that by their life and teaching, they may proclaim your true and life-giving Word, and rightly administer
your holy Sacraments. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We ask you to rule the hearts of all who govern us. May they administer justice, govern wisely, and strive
for the welfare and peace of the whole world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We humbly ask you, gracious Lord, to comfort and strengthen all those who, in this earthly life are in
trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
I invite you to add your own thanksgivings or requests at this time.
We bless your holy Name for all your servants who departed this life in your faith and fear, praying you
would grant us grace to follow their good examples, that with them we might partake in your heavenly
kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
The Deacon concludes with the following prayer
Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.
The Confession and Absolution of Sin
Deacon
We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we
have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have
not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your
Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your
ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those
who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all
your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
The Peace
Now that we have confessed our sins to God, we share God’s peace with one another. In order to further prepare our
hearts for Communion, this time is offered to give members an opportunity to be reconciled with one another. If there is
any unforgiveness between you and another member of God’s family, this is the time to extend God’s peace to that
person and be reconciled. People in the church typically shake hands or hug fellow worshipers and say, “The peace of
the Lord be with you,” or simply, “peace”.

Birthday Prayer – Pray together
O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor we pray on you servant as he begins another year.
Grant that he may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen his trust in your goodness all the days of
his life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Anniversary Prayer & Blessing of the Marriage
O God, you have so consecrated the covenant of marriage that in it is represented the spiritual unity
between Christ and his Church: Send therefore your blessing upon these your servants, that they may so
love, honor, and cherish each other in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their
home may be a haven of blessing and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit,
bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favor look upon you, and fill you with all
spiritual benediction and grace; that you may faithfully live together in this life, and in the age to come
have life everlasting. Amen.
Offertory Sentence
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts! Psalm 96:8
You may place money (check or cash) in the offering plate that will go toward the work of Christ Church to build the kingdom
of God in Fallbrook and beyond. You may enter into singing or simply listen, and you may sit or stand as you feel led. This is
a time of offering our gifts to the Lord.
Offertory Anthem: “Search Me, Know Me”
Search me, know me, try me and see ev'ry worthless affection hidden in me
All I'm asking for is that You'd cleanse me Lord
Create in me a heart that's clean, conquer the power of secret shame
Come wash away the guilty stain of all my sin
Clothe me in robes of righteousness, cover my nakedness with grace
All of my life before You now I humbly bring
Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow, praise him all creatures here below,
Praise him above ye heavenly hosts, praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
HOLY COMMUNION
The words of this part of the service are taken directly from the Biblical account of the Last Supper when Jesus took the
bread and wine and invited the disciples to eat and drink of His body and blood. We do this in remembrance of Jesus, just
as He instructed and we believe God is with us in this holy feast.

The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is just and right so to do.
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth, because you have given us the spirit of discipline, that we may triumph over
the flesh, and live no longer for ourselves but for him who died for us and rose again, your Son Jesus
Christ our Lord. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the
company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:
“Christ Church Lenten Sanctus”
Holy, holy, holy, God of power, God of power and might
Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna on high
Blessed is the One Who comes in the Name of the Lord
Blessed is the One Who comes in the Name of the Lord
Hosanna in the highest
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in your tender mercy, you gave your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer
death upon the cross for our redemption. He offered himself and made, once for all time, a perfect and
sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He instituted this remembrance of his passion and
death, which he commanded us to continue until he comes again. So now, Father, we ask you to bless and
sanctify, with your Word and Holy Spirit, these gifts of bread and wine that we may partake of his most
blessed Body and Blood.
On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in
remembrance of me.”
After supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all
of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness
of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Lord and heavenly Father, with these holy gifts we celebrate the memorial instituted by your beloved Son,
remembering his passion and death, his resurrection and ascension, and his promise to come again. Grant
that by his merits and death, and through faith in his Blood, we and your whole Church may receive
forgiveness of our sins and all other benefits of his passion, making us one body with him that he may
dwell in us, and we in him. And here we offer to you, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a
living sacrifice, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
By him and with him and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty
Father, now and forever. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer

And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as
it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Fraction Anthem: “Merciful God”
Merciful God, O abounding in love, Faithful to all who draw near You
Hearing the cries of the humble in heart, showing the cross they may cling to
Help I come broken in sin, found at the feet of Your mercy
Father forgive, may my sin be remembered no more
Merciful God, O abounding in love, Faithful through times we have failed You
Selfish in thought and uncaring in deed, foolish in word and ungrateful
Spirit of God, conquer our hearts with love that flows from forgiveness
Cause us to yield and return to the mercy of God
Merciful God, O abounding in love, Faithful to keep us from falling
Guiding our ways with Your fatherly heart, growing our faith with each testing
God speed the day struggles will end, faultless we'll gaze on Your glory
Then we will stand overwhelmed by the mercy of God
The Ministration of Communion
Celebrant
Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are
those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. John 1:29, Revelation 19:9
All baptized Christians may receive Holy Communion. You may eat the bread and take a sip from the chalice or dip your
bread into the chalice. Gluten free hosts are available upon request. All are welcomed to come forward for a blessing.
If you are not receiving communion, simply cross your arms when you reach one of the priests. This indicates to them
that you would like a special blessing.
Members of the healing ministry are available to pray for you or for your loved ones.

“Jesus Messiah”
He became sin, Who knew no sin, that we might become His righteousness
He humbled Himself and carried the cross. Love so amazing, love so amazing!
Jesus Messiah, Name above all names, Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel,
The Rescue for sinners, the Ransom from heaven, Jesus Messiah, Lord of all!
His body the bread, His blood the wine, broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn. Love so amazing, love so amazing!

The Post Communion Prayer
Celebrant
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and
Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living
members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out into
the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ
our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.
The Blessing
The peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love
of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and
the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you always. Amen.
Closing Hymn: “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)”
Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found, was blind but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed
My chains are gone I've been set free, my God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns, unending love amazing grace
The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine
But God who called me here below, will be forever mine, will be forever mine, You are forever mine!
