NHS Library Quality Assurance Framework (LQAF) England – Innovation Report Please Note: a) Use a separate form for each innovation you wish to report. b) Your SHA library lead will advise you of the appropriate deadline for submissions. 1. Guidance on Innovation Categories The 4 categories of innovation used in the LQAF that you can report against are: Product Innovation concerns a product or service that is new or significantly improved. This includes significant improvements in content, mode of delivery, user friendliness or other functional characteristics. Process innovation concerns a new or significantly improved way of producing or delivering a service or product. This could include significant changes in techniques, equipment and/or software. Marketing Innovation is about new marketing methods involving new or significantly improved ways of marketing or promoting a library service or product. Organisational Innovation involves introducing a new or improved way of organizing or managing the library service, including working in partnership with other services, to increase overall performance and productivity. It would be helpful to review the innovations and good practice submissions at: http://www.libraryservices.nhs.uk/wiki/Innovations.MainPage.ashx PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Submissions considered “innovations” at a local or SHA level may be judged as “good practice” at national level. This is likely to happen when the judges are aware of the same thing or a very similar thing happening in other library/knowledge services in the NHS. 2. The Innovation This is where you should describe the innovation in detail, explain why you consider it is innovative and provide evidence to support your assertion. Users can choose a comprehensive induction according to need: Tips and tools – induction training at The COMET Library o What we can do for you o The Library as a place o Online services o Document supply service How to register for an Athens account How to access electronic journals and articles How to search healthcare databases How to access eBooks How to access NHS Evidence The films are particularly useful for health and social care staff who are not based at the hospital but require access library services. This includes large numbers of staff such as mental health staff (SEPT), community based staff, GPs, Commissioning staff, Public health staff etc. Describe the impact this has had Describe and supply the evidence you have to support your submission The impact has not yet been evaluated but the potential to reach many staff and to provide help with using the databases, anytime, anywhere has huge implications for increasing effective access to NHS Resources. The films are recently completed and therefore evaluation on impact is not complete. The DVDs are sent out to all new staff, they will be available on the website very soon. N.B.
