Algebra Blizzard Bag #3
Chapter 4 Review
Name ______________________________ Date ________________ Core _____
For problems 1 – 2, solve each system of equations by graphing.
1. y = 2x + 9
2. y = 1/2 x – 1
3x + 4y = - 8
2x – y = -7
For problems 3 – 8, write a system of equations to represent each problem scenario.
Define the variables. Then solve the system by substitution or elimination.
3. Angles X and Y are supplementary, and the measure of angle X is 24 degrees greater than the
measure of angle Y. Find the measures of angles X and Y.
4. The perimeter of a rectangle is 56 meters. The length is 4 meters longer than the width. What
are the dimensions of the rectangle?
5. Find the numbers whose sum is 15, if twice the 1st number minus the 2nd number is 6.
6. The difference of two numbers is -1. The sum of twice the first number and three times the
second numbers is 13. What are the numbers?

7. Balloon 1 is 10 meters above the ground and rising 15 meters per minute. Balloon 2 is 150
meters above ground and descending 20 meters per minute. In how many minutes will the
balloons be the same height? How high will the balloons be at that time?
8. A restaurant charges one price for adults and another price for children. The Arms family has two
adults and three children, and their bill was $40.50. The Walls family has three adults and one
child. Their bill was $38. Determine the price of the buffet for an adult and the price for a child.
9. Tickets to a movie cost $7.25 for adults and $5.50 for students. A group of friends purchased 8
tickets for $52.75. Determine the number of adult and student tickets purchased by the group.
For problems 10 – 12, graph the system of linear inequalities.
10. y < 4x + 1
11. -x + y > -2
12. 4y + 2x > 8
y > -3x – 2
2x + y > -4
y>2
