Four Square Writing Homework
Making the World a Better Place
We are continuing to work on brainstorming in class. We have already filled out the
Brainstorming page, topic sentence, and the wrap-up in class together. Each detail
sentence should have at least one adjective. Ask your child to circle the adjectives with a
red pen or crayon. This way, they will be sure to use at least one adjective in each sentence.
(Adjectives are describing words. They describe people, places, and things.) I can pick up
dirty trash to help keep my wonderful school super clean.
Monday:


Ask your child to read the Topic sentence to you.
Now ask your child to read the Detail bubbles to you. These are the details
your child used to talk about making the world a better place. Look at the first
detail and have your child come up with a sentence for the word/words. Have
your child write this in box #2. Check to make sure your child has written the
sentence correctly. Don’t forget to circle the adjectives!
Tuesday:

Look at the second detail and have your child come up with a sentence for the
word/words. Have your child write this in box #3. Check to make sure your
child has written the sentence correctly. Don’t forget to circle the adjectives!

Wednesday:

Look at the third detail and have your child come up with a sentence for the
word/words. Have your child write this in box #4. Check to make sure your
child has written the sentence correctly. Don’t forget to circle the adjectives!
We have already written the wrap up sentence together in class. Ask your child to
read the wrap-up sentence to you. The students are learning that the last sentence in
the paragraph is called the wrap up sentence because it kind of wraps up (like a gift)
all of the ideas (details) that were discussed.
Thursday:
 Have your child copy all of the sentences onto the lined paper. This is the final
copy, so they don’t need to circle the adjectives.
