Chapter 6 Science Review
1. ON A WARM, BRIGHT DAY, you would see white, fluffy clouds.
2. The type of winter weather that will likely be in eastern Washington is
COLD AND DRY.
3. Scientists measure WIND SPEED with this tool.
4. A scientist needs to measure the air pressure. The scientist will use A
BAROMETER.
5. The type of severe storm that is spinning column of air that touches the
ground IS A TORNADO.
6. Hurricanes form OVER WARM OCEANS.
7. People with breathing difficulties should avoid the outdoors WHEN THERE
IS A SMOG ALERT.

9. If the National Weather Service puts out a tornado warning, the tornado will
likely strike DURING THE NEXT FEW MINUTES.
10. A picture of the Sun behind a cloud on a weather map means PARTLY
CLOUDY WEATHER.

snowfall is A BLIZZARD.

how much rain has fallen over a period of time.
13. Some storms can be very dangerous. A HURRICANE IS A STORM THAT
FORMS FOVER THE OCEAN, HAS HEAVY RAINFALL, STRONG WINDS
AND PRODUCES HUGE WAAVES. HURRICANES BUILD UP SLOWLY
AND WIND DOWN GRADUALLY.
14. Below is how tornadoes and hurricanes are alike and different.
Hurricane
• form over the ocean
• heavy rains
• forms slowly
Both
• dangerous
• strong winds
Tornado
• form over land
• funnel – shaped column
• forms quickly
