Is Allah the God of the Bible?
You will have heard it said “we all worship the same God” or “the God of
the Bible is the same God as Allah”. Another popular saying is “the three
great Abrahamic faiths (or religions), which are Judaism, Christianity and
Islam”. These are presented as the three great monotheistic religions. So
where does this idea come from? It is certainly not from the Bible. It is
Islam. Our secular leaders spout this, liberal religious leaders spout this
but when someone makes these statements, even if out of ignorance,
they are preaching pure Islam. In Islam Judaism and Christianity are the
forerunners of Islam being subordinate to it. In Islam a good Jew or
Christian is a Muslim, they have converted to the Islamic faith. If a
Muslim converts to Christianity they are apostate, and even in the West
risk dying for their new faith. The question is justified, if we all worship
the same God, why do Muslims who convert to Christianity in Muslim
countries face death for apostasy?
Do we find Allah in the Bible? Yes we do! The Moon god crescent (as seen
on Mosques and Muslim flags worldwide), in our English Bibles is often
translated as ‘ornament’. Therefore we do not notice it. In the following
three scriptures the New King James does use correctly ‘crescent’.
The first scripture is from Green’s Literal Translation of the Bible. Judges
8:21 “Then Zebah and Zalmunna said: 'Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as
the man is, so is his strength.' And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and
Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels' necks.”
The second scripture quote is from the Jewish publication society (they
should know the Hebrew language), Judges 8:26 “And the weight of the
golden ear-rings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred
shekels of gold; beside the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple
raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were
about their camels' necks.”
The last scripture quotation is from Isaiah 3:18 “In that day the Lord will
take away the beauty of the ankle bracelets, and the headbands, and the
crescents.” (Green’s Literal Translation of the Bible).
In Holy Scripture the Crescent Moon god is false and spoken against. Is
this the same crescent as used by Muslims today? Yes, there is no
historical break and Muslims must give an account why they are using a
false idol, going back to the time of false pagan Sabean worship (worship
of Sun and Moon). Exodus 20:4 “Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven
image, nor any manner of likeness, of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
The Sabean worship of the Moon and Sun goes back to Babel, It was a
problem for Job (Green’s Literal Translation), Job 31:26-28 “if I looked to
the light when it shone, or the splendid moon marching, and my heart
was secretly enticed, or my mouth has kissed my hand; this also would
be an iniquity for the judges; for I would have denied God above.” For Job
to be enticed by the Moon he would have denied God!
Lunar or Lucina are the Latin names for the Moon as a female deity,
Lunus is the male name showing the hermaphrodic nature of the Moon
god. The ancients believed the moon could affect people’s actions; hence
we get our word ‘lunatic’ and ‘lunacy’. Islam is fatalistic in the same way
‘as al-Lah wills’. In its crescent form it is the lunette. In Arabia he was a
male god, elsewhere a female goddess.
Romans 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the
world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,
even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”
Now to go into further detail of this subject. The correct way of writing
Allah is either Al-Lah when at the beginning of a sentence, or al-Lah mid
sentence. Al is simply the definitive article, ‘the-Lah’. Lah can be spelt
either Liah or Lah. Lah is the name of the Arabic crescent Moon god.
Some try to make al-Lah the same as the Hebrew El or Elohim, both
translated as God in our English Bibles. This cannot work as ‘al’ is not part
of Lah’s name, and Lah has no etymological link with El. God in the
Hebrew is mostly from Elohim, which is plural (the Godhead). God in
Genesis chapter one verse one is Elohim, the Gospel according to John
explains it. John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All
things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing
came into being that has come into being.”
Al-Qur’an is specific, al-Lah has no son or partners. Surah (chapter) 17,
(The Night Journey), Ayah (verse) 111. This is a Meccan chapter, written
at a time before Mohamed became violent at Medina. The first quotation
is from Yusuf Ali’s translation. "Praise be to Allah, who begets no son, and
has no partner in (His) dominion: Nor (needs) He any to protect Him from
humiliation: yea, magnify Him for His greatness and glory!" Marmaduke
Pickthall’s translation “And say: Praise be to Allah, Who hath not taken
unto Himself a son, and Who hath no partner in the Sovereignty, nor hath
He any protecting friend through dependence. And magnify Him with all
magnificence.”
This quotation clearly denies any plurality or Godhead. Allah has no son
and has no partner. Allah cannot be the Godhead or God of the Bible.
God in the Old Testament is often in the plural i.e. The Godhead. In
Genesis 18:1-3 ‘And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre:
and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him:
and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and
bowed himself toward the ground,
3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not
away, I pray thee, from thy servant.’
In verse 1 LORD (all capitals) is Jehovah, it is singular. In verse 3 Lord,
which is capital ‘L’ then lowercase (Lord) is from the Hebrew ‘Adonai’, it is
plural, as is ‘Elohim’, the singular for ‘Adonai’ is ‘Adon’. It may be argued
that Abraham is addressing all three, but as we will see he is addressing
only one as Jehovah, in the plural.
The Hebrew word ‘Adon’ is ‘lord’ or ‘master’ in the sense that we are
slaves or servants, in subjection to the Lord. This relationship is found in
the New Testament.
KJV Galatians 1:10 ‘For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to
please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of
Christ’.
Green’s literal translation, Galatians 1:10 ‘For do I now persuade men or
God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I would not be
a slave of Christ’.
Gen 19:1 ‘And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in
the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he
bowed himself with his face toward the ground.’
And there came two angels. Or, rather, ‘the two angels came’, referring to
those mentioned in the preceding chapter, and there called ‘men’. It
seems (Genesis 18:22), that these two angels were sent to Sodom, while
the third person, was the LORD (Jehovah), who remained with Abraham.
Hebrews 13:1,2 may assist, if not with Abraham, with Lot. Hebrews
13:1,2 ‘Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain
strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares’. This is
possibly a reference to this event in Genesis, either with Abraham, or Lot,
or both.
Gen 18:22 ‘And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward
Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD’.
Here the two angels depart for Sodom, the LORD staying with Abraham.
In verse 18:32 Abraham is still addressing the LORD in the plural, Lord
here is still Adonai, he is addressing Jehovah in the plural (the Godhead).
Gen 18:32 ‘And he said, Oh let not the Lord (Adonai) be angry, and I will
speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he
said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
Gen 18:33 And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left
communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place’.
Where the LORD goes scripture does not say. But we know the two men
(angels), went to Sodom. In Genesis 19:24 the LORD who is still on the
Earth rains brimstone and fire from the LORD in Heaven, thus we see two
Jehovahs, yet there is one God, these are two members of the Godhead,
working together in unity.
The Tanakh, the Jewish Bible (Old Testament), the Torah (the five books
of Moses) has Genesis 19:24 ‘Then the LORD caused to rain upon Sodom
and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven.’
(The Tanakh, The Jewish Publication Society). If there is to be any
disagreement regarding Genesis 19:24 we would expect it to be with the
Jewish Masoretic (Hebrew) text, there is no disagreement. What about
the Septuagint (Jewish Greek Old Testament)? ‘And the Lord rained on
Sodom and Gomorrha brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven’.
(Brenton’s translation). Again, there is no disagreement. I have other
comparisons at the bottom.
Gen 19:24-29 ‘Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah
brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven’.
Gen 19:25 ‘And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the
inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground’.
Gen 19:26 ‘But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a
pillar of salt.’
Gen 19:27 ‘And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where
he stood before the LORD.’
Gen 19:28 ‘And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all
the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went
up as the smoke of a furnace’.
Gen 19:29 ‘And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the
plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of
the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.’
God in Genesis 19:29 is ‘Elohim’, it is plural as in Godhead. It is a
statement about God, not an address to God.
Can the Godhead dwell in one person? As in Genesis 18:32 ‘And he said,
Oh let not the Lord (Adonai) be angry...’
Colossians 2:6 ‘As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so
walk ye in him.’
Lord here is from the Greek ‘Kurios’ which has the same meaning as Lord
in the OT, deity. In the Septuagint, the word kurios was used to translate
Adonai as Lord. In the New Testament, it is the word used for God or
Lord.
Colossians 2:9 ‘For in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.’
Here we have testimony in the New Testament that the Godhead can
‘dwell’ in one person though all three are separate persons. We have seen
Abraham address God in the plural in his use of ‘Adonai’. He could have
used ‘Adon’, which is singular.
The God of Abraham is the Godhead, the God of the Holy Bible; it cannot
be the Muslim al-Lah, the god of al-Qur’an.
Regarding what al-Qur’an says about Jesus, for quotations from
al-Qur’an I’m using the translation by Abdullah Yusufali, which is
highly regarded in Islamic circles.
Regarding Jesus being the Son of God al-Qur’an states (Surah 4:171) O
People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah
aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) an
apostle of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit
proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His apostles. Say not
"Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah. Glory be
to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things
in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.
9:30, 31. The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ
the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but
imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah.s curse be on them:
how they are deluded away from the Truth! They take their priests and
their anchorites to be their lords in derogation of Allah, and (they take as
their Lord) Christ the son of Mary; yet they were commanded to worship
but One Allah. there is no god but He. Praise and glory to Him: (Far is He)
from having the partners they associate (with Him).
10:68,69 They say: "(Allah) hath begotten a son!" - Glory be to Him! He
is self- sufficient! His are all things in the heavens and on earth! No
warrant have ye for this! say ye about Allah what ye know not? Say:
"Those who invent a lie against Allah will never prosper."
18:4,5 Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "(Allah) hath
begotten a son": No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their
fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying
what they say is nothing but falsehood!
19:34-36. Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of truth,
about which they (vainly) dispute. It is not befitting to (the majesty of)
Allah that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! when He determines a
matter, He only says to it, "Be", and it is. Verily Allah is my Lord and your
Lord: Him therefore serve ye: this is a Way that is straight.
19:87-89 None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as
has received permission (or promise) from ((Allah)) Most Gracious. They
say: "((Allah)) Most Gracious has begotten a son!". Indeed ye have put
forth a thing most monstrous!
The Bible says regarding Jesus being the Son of God, contrary to alQur’an:
Matthew 27:53,54 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and
went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Now when the
centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the
earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying,
Truly this was the Son of God.
Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost
shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow
thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be
called the Son of God.
Luke 22:70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said
unto them, Ye say that I am.
John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John 3:17, 18 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the
world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God.
Al-Qur’an says Jesus is not the Son of God, the Bible says He is.
Al-Qur’an says that Jesus is just a man and not God.
5:14-17 From those, too, who call themselves Christians, We did take a
covenant, but they forgot a good part of the message that was sent
them: so we estranged them, with enmity and hatred between the one
and the other, to the day of judgment. And soon will Allah show them
what it is they have done. O people of the Book! There hath come to you
our Messenger, revealing to you much that ye used to hide in the Book,
and passing over much (that is now unnecessary). There hath come to
you from Allah a (new) light and a perspicuous Book. Wherewith Allah
guideth all who seek His good pleasure to ways of peace and safety, and
leadeth them out of darkness, by His will, unto the light,- guideth them to
a path that is straight. In blasphemy indeed are those that say that Allah
is Christ the son of Mary. Say: "Who then hath the least power against
Allah, if His will were to destroy Christ the son of Mary, his mother, and
all every - one that is on the earth? For to Allah belongeth the dominion
of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between. He createth what
He pleaseth. For Allah hath power over all things."
5:75. Christ the son of Mary was no more than an apostle; many were the
apostles that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth.
They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His
signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the
truth!
5:116. And behold! Allah will say: "O Jesus the son of Mary! Didst thou
say unto men, worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of
Allah.?" He will say: "Glory to Thee! never could I say what I had no right
(to say). Had I said such a thing, thou wouldst indeed have known it.
Thou knowest what is in my heart, Thou I know not what is in Thine. For
Thou knowest in full all that is hidden.
Al-Qur’an says that Jesus was just a man and not God. The Bible
says Jesus is God:
John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my
God.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The
Prince of Peace.
John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All
things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that
was made.
Al-Qur’an says Jesus did not die on the Cross.
4:156-158 That they rejected Faith; that they uttered against Mary a
grave false charge; That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the
son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.;- but they killed him not, nor
crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ
therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only
conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not. . Nay, Allah raised
him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.
The Holy Scriptures say Jesus died on the Cross, al-Qur’an says He
did not:
Matthew 27:37,38 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS
IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then were there two thieves crucified
with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded
up the ghost.
John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is
finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Al-Qur’an says the Lord was not crucified, the Bible says He was.
Why did Jesus come? Al-Qur’an says it was to deliver the message
of the prophets - Islam, Mohamed came to deliver the same
message. Jesus in Islam is merely a prophet, a man.
2:135,136 They say: "Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided
(To salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham
the True, and he joined not gods with Allah." Say ye: "We believe in Allah,
and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and
the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all)
prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and
another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."
3:84,85 Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us
and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes,
and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their
Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and
to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)." If anyone desires a religion other
than Islam (submission to Allah., never will it be accepted of him; and in
the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual
good).
42:13 The same religion has He established for you as that which He
enjoined on Noah - the which We have sent by inspiration to thee - and
that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that ye
should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein: to
those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which
thou callest them. Allah chooses to Himself those whom He pleases, and
guides to Himself those who turn (to Him).
5:44-51 It was We who revealed the law (to Moses): therein was
guidance and light. By its standard have been judged the Jews, by the
prophets who bowed (as in Islam) to Allah.s will, by the rabbis and the
doctors of law: for to them was entrusted the protection of Allah.s book,
and they were witnesses thereto: therefore fear not men, but fear me,
and sell not my signs for a miserable price. If any do fail to judge by (the
light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) Unbelievers.
We ordained therein for them: "Life for life, eye for eye, nose or nose, ear
for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal." But if any one
remits the retaliation by way of charity, it is an act of atonement for
himself. And if any fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed,
they are (No better than) wrong-doers. And in their footsteps We sent
Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We
sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of
the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to
those who fear Allah. Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah
hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah
hath revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel. To thee We
sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it,
and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath
revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that
hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an
open way. If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single
people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive
as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah. it is He that will
show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute. And this (He
commands): Judge thou between them by what Allah hath revealed, and
follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they beguile thee
from any of that (teaching) which Allah hath sent down to thee. And if
they turn away, be assured that for some of their crime it is Allah.s
purpose to punish them. And truly most men are rebellious. Do they then
seek after a judgment of (the days of) ignorance? But who, for a people
whose faith is assured, can give better judgment than Allah. O ye who
believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and
protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he
amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah
guideth not a people unjust.
The Bible says Jesus as God came to die for the sins of the world,
for the salvation of those who obey Him.
John 3:15-18 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn
the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that
believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God.
Mark 16:15,16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and
preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
The Jesus of al-Qur’an is more like the Isa of the Gnostic gospels
rather than the Bible.
The correct translation in al-Qur’an of Jesus is Isa. Isa is the name of
Jesus in the Gnostic gospels. The Gnostics rejected the crucifixion, as
does al-Qur’an. There is an influence of the Gnostics on Islam. This is
something Islamic scholars and its apologists must explain along with
translating Isa as Jesus, which is a false translation. The Isa of al-Qur’an
is not the Jesus of scripture.
Salvation in Islam:
In Islam salvation is guaranteed if one dies for al-Lah. This explains
suicide bombers and assassins who die with a certain promise of paradise
and its rewards. Assassin is a Muslim word. In Christianity God died for
mankind guaranteeing salvation to those who follow His teachings
(obedience).
Acts 20:28 “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock,
over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the
church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”
Romans 3:25 “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith
in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are
past, through the forbearance of God.”
Mark 16:15,15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and
preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Al-Lah cannot
be the God of the Bible.
Moses wrote by inspiration: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one
LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy might” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5). One God
made up of three persons.
In Matthew 28:19 we see the Godhead, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
yet name is singular. The plurality of three persons united as one in the
Godhead.
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All
power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even
unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Al-Lah is not the God of the Holy Scriptures; he is pagan in origin and
remains a false god.
The next time you hear someone preach “we all worship the same God”
or “the God of the Bible is the same God as Allah”, they are preaching
Islam whether knowingly or unknowingly, they are proclaiming Islam and
denying the Bible.
Muslims are taught that al-lah sent the angel Gabriel (Jibril) with the
revelation to Muhammad. Galatians 1:8,9 ‘But though we, or an angel
from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have
preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now
again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have
received, let him be accursed.’
The God of al-Qur’an is not the God (Godhead) of the Bible. The
Jesus (Isa) of al-Quran is not the Jesus (God) of the Bible.

Genesis 19:24. For comparison on Genesis 19:24 here are various Bible versions. This
verse is clear, the Elohim (God) has more than one person, here two members are called
Jehovah. Where “LORD” is used it means Jehovah or Yahweh. This verse teaches there
are at least two Jehovah Gods, it has caused upset and disbelief, but what it teaches it
teaches – The Godhead!
Wycliffe, modern English, 1382. ‘Therefore the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah
brimstone and fire, from the Lord of heaven.’ (In Wycliffe’s time the formula of using
LORD for Jehovah had not started).
William Tyndale’s Old Testament 1530, modern English version by David Daniell, 1992.
‘Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorra, brimstone and fire from the Lord
out of heaven’, (In Tyndale’s time the formula of using LORD for Jehovah had not
started).
Geneva Bible 1599. ‘Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah, brimstone
and fire from the Lord out of heaven.’ This is a copy of Tyndale translation, in this time
the formula of using LORD for Jehovah had not started).
King James Version ‘Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone
and fire from the LORD out of heaven.’ (Based on Tyndale).
New King James Version ‘Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and
Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens.’
21st Century New King James Version ‘Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon
Gomorrah brimstone and fire, from the LORD out of heaven.’
John Nelson Darby, 1890 ‘And Jehovah rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and
fire from Jehovah out of heaven.’
New International Version ‘Then the LORD rained down burning sulphur on Sodom and
Gomorrah—from the LORD out of the heavens.’
Green’s Literal Translation ‘And Jehovah rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and
Gomorrah, from Jehovah out of the heavens.’
Brenton’s LXX (Septuagint) ‘And the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrha brimstone and
fire from the Lord out of heaven.’
American Standard Version ‘Then Jehovah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah
brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of heaven.’
New American Standard Bible ‘ Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone
and fire from the LORD out of heaven.’
Tanakh (The Jewish Publication Society) ‘the LORD rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah
sulfurous fire from the LORD out of heaven.’
Young’s Literal Translation ‘and Jehovah hath rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah
brimstone and fire from Jehovah, from the heavens.’
English Standard Version ‘Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire
from the LORD out of heaven.’
New English Translation which struggles with this ‘Then the LORD rained down sulfur and
fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. It was sent down from the sky by the LORD.’ The sentence
is broken by a full stop, such is not in the Greek/Hebrew.
Complete Jewish Bible ‘ Then ADONAI caused sulfur and fire to rain down upon S’dom and
‘Amora from ADONAI out of the sky.’ To my knowledge no text (Hebrew/Greek) uses
ADONAI and presumably being in all capitals and italics is reference to it being Jehovah,
normally translated as LORD. None-the-less, two persons of the Godhead is clearly seen.

two are from Saudi Arabia, one from Riyadh and the other from Jeddah, a country where
owning a Bible is illegal despite al-Qur’an calling the Old and New Testament scripture
(Qur’an 2:135/6). The last is from India. The Qur’an is one of the bestselling books in
the world.
