Then choose 3 more activities from the list below to complete. Staple all work to this sheet and make sure each activity is clearly labeled. Activity 1: Sentences: Use each spelling word in a “third grade” sentence. (Underline the spelling word.) Ex. I know how to spell each word because I did my homework. Activity 2: Syllables: Break each spelling word into syllables. Write the number of syllables next to the word. Check your work with a dictionary. Ex. be-cause (2) im-pos-si-ble (4) flight (1) Activity 3: Definitions: Write the definition for each spelling word. Ex. impossible- not possible Activity 4: Synonyms: Use a thesaurus to find a synonym (word that means the same) for each word. Ex. friends-buddies Activity 5: Word Search: Make a word search using all of the spelling words. (Have somebody solve your word search.) Activity 6: Making Words: Create 3 new words from the letters of each spelling word. Ex. because- be, cause, see white- hit, tie, wet Activity 7: Antonym: Use a thesaurus to find an antonym (word that means the opposite) for each word. Ex. friends-enemies Activity 8: Part of Speech: Use the dictionary to write the part of speech for each spelling word. If there is more than one part of speech, write them all. Ex. shack-noun because-conjuction Activity 9: Alphabetize: Put the spelling words in alphabetical order. Activity 10: Dictionary Respelling: Look up the pronunciation of each word in the dictionary.
