Point Of Load Module Larger system distributed systems for telecommunications and computer networks typically employ a distributed power system which consists of an intermediate bus voltage, between 24 and 48 volts, which is then translated into the lower supply voltages where they are needed. This is typically done to reduce I2R losses in the distribution system. POL converters are also typically isolated to prevent grounding problems as well. Microchip offers a selection of switch mode converters chips that can be implemented in a typical POL configuration, there are also a selection of microcontrollers with peripherals which can be used in POL designs.
