1. How are intellectuals treated in the book? Are they respected, feared or repressed? Do they have to hide?
2. Dystopian societies often have some sort of disaster that caused the world to change. It might be a war,
economic collapse, or a natural disaster. What is the back story for your book?
3. Does the conflict of this book seem like something that could happen in your lifetime? Explain

The group may be seen as outsiders or rebels. Is there a group like this in your book? What role do they

10. Propaganda is often a part of dystopian novels minds manipulated by outside sources such as the media,
government and peers. Is this “bad” for society? Did propaganda or lies play a part of your book?
11. Dystopian books frequently have social stratification that creates the “haves and the have nots.” Was this a
part of your book? What group was the protagonist a part of?
12. Society imposes severe social restrictions on the community in a dystopian book. Name three laws,
