Areas for CORE Integration
Band
Essential Questions
Please identify the subjects above each
area for integration listed.
What is Intonation? Why is it important?
How do we fix it?
Art - Language Arts - Theme and Subject
in Art
How do the duration of different notes
(quarter, half, whole, eighth, etc) relate to
basic math? Identify the patterns. What is
dissonance/consonance? Why is it important
to know and recognize these terms (key
signature, m2 apart)?
Can students use accurate art vocabulary to
write about and talk about famous works of
art and their own art?
Can students identify different types of media
used in art?
Art - Math/Science - Measurement with
rulers and measurement of liquids.
Art - Social Studies - Time and Place
when art was made and what was going
on in the world at that time.
How wide is our musical vocabulary? Can we
clearly articulate what we are trying to say,
both verbally and musically?
Band to Science:
Discuss Intonation. What is tuning? What How does music impact you.. the world?
What can we do to use music to better the

like? How does it interact with other
sound waves? How does all of this affect
your intonation (tuning). Discuss how
having your instrument in tune is all
science/physics and know what to look for
and how to fix it.
Band to Math:

of music and the precision/duration of

your instrument’s role within our music
and how often this role occurs in band
literature. Discuss the probability of these
roles if reading a new piece of music (or
writing a piece of music). Also, discuss
Music Theory scale degrees of the diatonic
scale and discuss the level of consonance
and/or dissonance (relative to tonic) each
scale degree holds and be able to predict
the probability of which scale degree
would follow given these levels of
consonance and dissonance.
Band to ELA:
Listen to a piece of band literature and
describe what you hear. Use as many
musical terms as possible. Who do you
think wrote this piece of music? It may be
from your favorite composer? Do you
have a favorite composer? If so, why what does this composer’s material sound
like? Could you recognize this composer’s
work by ear? So, who do you think
composed this music?
Band to SS:
What was the first ever instrument? How
has music evolved from classical music to
today’s music? What would life be like
without music? How does music impact
you… your family…. our nation…. our
society? How can we use music to better
