PHILANTHROPIC COORDINATOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Introduction
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) seeks to employ a Philanthropic Coordinator. This is a full time position, with
possible negotiation for a 4 day a week role.
This position provides you a rare opportunity to make a real impact on one of the most significant causes in Australia. You will
have a direct impact on all programs and activities within the ASRC. The role will strengthen, sustain and develop the
philanthropic initiatives aimed at funding and expanding the aid, empowerment, social justice and community engagement work of
the ASRC. This is an ideal job for someone with passion and drive, excellent communication skills, the ability to think strategically
and a love for working hands on with people.
Organisational Context
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia's largest asylum seeker aid, health and advocacy organisation caring
and advocating for over 1000 asylum seekers from over 55 countries. We are a grassroots, independent human rights
organisation and registered charity.
We provide free legal, health and counselling services as well as ESL, casework and employment programs amongst an array of
25 programs. The ASRC established the first health and employment services for asylum seekers in Victoria. We provide food to
over 400 asylum seeker families a month through our Food Bank and are the largest provider of pro bono legal assistance to
asylum seekers in Australia.
In addition, we also engage in law reform, campaigning and lobbying to raise community awareness and work for positive social
change for asylum seekers. Our work was recognised in 2003 with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission
Human Rights Award for community organisations and in 2005 with the National Australia Bank’s “Volunteer Organisation of the
Year” State and National Award. In 2008 our CEO was a Finalist for Australian of the Year (Victoria) and in 2010 we were short
listed as a Finalist for the Melbourne Award in the Community category.
The Philanthropic Program is situated within the ASRC’s Community Pillar. In particular the Philanthropic Coordinator works in
conjunction with the Marketing Program to secure financial and other support, strengthen the ASRC supporter base and ensure
the delivery of its services.

Role of the Philanthropic Coordinator
The role involves overall management and strategic direction of the Philanthropic Program at the ASRC. Philanthropy is the
financial backbone of the ASRC as we receive no Federal Government funding and less than 5% of our funding comes from the
State Government. Philanthropic support accounts for more than 50% of our funding each year. We are well regarded in the
philanthropic world and have a terrific range of trusts who currently support us spanning from The R.E Ross Trust, , The Colonial
Foundation to the Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation, The Helen Macpherson Trust and the Myer Foundation to name but a
few. The Philanthropic Coordinator will work closely with the Community Team Leader, Marketing Manager, ASRC CEO and
ASRC Program Coordinators.
Current Philanthropic Program activities:
 Writing grant applications to potential and current philanthropic supporters for funding or refunding of ASRC programs
and projects.
 Managing partner relationships through regular updates to philanthropic supporters on our achievements and future
directions.
 Attending and present at funder meetings.
