(Insert appropriate Chamber name) with the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eco-Efficiency Survey 2002 Dear Member, I am writing to invite you to participate in the first [insert appropriate chamber name] Eco-Efficiency Survey. This survey is being conducted nationally in collaboration with the other State and Territory Members of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The results from this survey will assist you directly in improving the profitability of your business, by allowing you to benchmark the performance of your business against the performance of your industry sector as a whole, both within [insert name of State or Territory] and nationally. Participants can also order a free kit of how to improve your profits through implementing eco-efficiency. “Eco-efficiency” means doing more with less. It means using fewer resources to make or deliver more output. This survey attempts to measure your business’ eco-efficiency performance. As well as measuring your business’ performance, the survey asks your views on various environmental issues and how they affect your business. This information in summary form will be fed back to relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory Industry and Environment Departments. Confidentiality Once you fill this survey in and return to [insert appropriate chamber name] the data will be aggregated with all other businesses that respond. Under no circumstances will your survey form or any identifying material be provided to any GovernmentAgency. Once the data is aggregated by [insert appropriate chamber name] the last page which identifies your business will be removed. While this survey is of course voluntary, [insert appropriate chamber name] believes that your business will benefit from participation by identifying strength and weaknesses in key environmental areas. Also the aggregated data that will be provided back to you as a participant will give you vital material for benchmarking your performance and helping you to become more competitive. Eco-Efficiency Survey 2002 STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL [insert appropriate chamber name] looks forward to receiving your completed survey by XXX The purpose of the survey This survey attempts to gain a ‘snap-shot’ of the eco-efficiency of Australian industry. The survey is undertaken under a grant provided by Environment Australia as part of an Eco-Efficiency Agreement that [insert appropriate chamber name] signed with Environment Australia in July 2001. At least two more surveys will be undertaken in 2003 and 2004. The data from these surveys will provide valuable information for individual businesses, which will be able to benchmark their performance against their industry sector. The surveys will also provide time-series data on ecoefficiency in industry. This data will help Government agencies plan programs to assist industry in becoming more efficient. How the data will be used and what you will get from participating The data will be published in aggregate form and as a respondent in the survey a copy of the report will be forwarded to you to allow you to compare your business performance with industry benchmarks. A loose leaf flyer is enclosed with this survey which will help you calculate your own ecoefficiency ratios so that you can measure your own business’ efficiency. You may also order a free kit that contains information on how to increase your profits from eco-efficiency. See the last page of the survey.
