students.
Students who wish to enter Loyola as a fine arts major concentrating in music should submit a clearly marked
audition tape or call the department to arrange an audition.
After declaring the music major, students are required to enroll in an ensemble and an applied music course each
semester they attend Loyola.
Music students choose a particular area of concentration: an instrument, voice, theory/composition, or music history.
For majors, a junior year standing recital is required for admittance to upper applied and ensemble courses.
Students who enter the program after freshman year may be given credit for lower division applied music at the
discretion of the department chair, usually after an audition.
Students who wish to complete a degree in music education should consult with music faculty to discuss course
requirements.
Ear Training, Applied Music, and ensembles are taken in addition to the regular five-course load since they are not
three-credit courses. Students should register for these courses during the regular registration period.
A fee is charged for all Applied Music courses. This is paid directly to the instructor at the first lesson.
A semester jury is required of all Applied Music students beginning with their second semester of Applied Music
study.
