Recall Worksheet R 6.3 Using a rule to fill a table A rule allows us to work out any numbers belonging to a certain number pattern. y = x + 10 and y = x – 6 are rules. We can find the value of y by substituting any number for x. x y 0 1 2 3 4 A table of values is used to summarise the numbers that satisfy the rule. The x values are usually given, however, if they are not given we usually use the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3. W orked Example Use the rule y = x + 10 to complete the table x y 0 1 2 3 4 Thinking Working 1 Substitute the first x value in the table into the given rule. y = x + 10, x = 0 y = 0 + 10 y = 10 2 Follow the same process for the other x values given in the table. 1 Using the given rule, complete the table of values.
