Work 2 Comparing plant and animal cells Objective: To examine similarities and differences between plant and animal cells. Materials and tools: 1. Microscope MBR-1 2. Prepared slide of the frog red blood cells 3. Prepared slide of the onion skin cells Method: Set the microscope on low power. Place the slide on the microscope stage and focus on the top layer of the cells. Locate the cells under the low power (х8) and then under high power (х40). Draw 2-3 cells. Make a drawing showing cells` shape. Study of frog red blood cells (x400) Draw 2-3 cells and label: 1) cell membrane, 2) cytoplasm, 3) nuclear, 5) red blood cell. Study of onion skin cells (x400) Draw 2-3 cells and label: 1) cell membrane, 2) cytoplasm, 3) cell wall, 4) nuclear. Inquire: The cell slides were stained so that they could be seen clearly. Methylen blue is often used to stain slides. Conclusion: 1. Compare the morphology of the onion skin cells and frog’s red blood cells. Explain the reason for the differences between them. 2. Compare the location of the nucleus in plant and animal cells. Account for the difference.
