Overview
AccuSpina Health Clinic is dedicated toward the overall health improvement of
our patients and the extended community. The following article is based upon many
years of experience of caring for the older adult. Adults should pay serious attention to
their diet in our modern day society. Some chemicals added by the manufacturing
process, including: pesticides, growth hormones, food dyes and preservatives can
cause unexplained health problems. To make matters even worse, it is not easy to
determine the adverse effects of an improper diet due to the small amounts of these
chemicals. We hope you find good information in our feature article. You may find by
simply no longer drinking cow’s milk, that a number of your current body problems may
just go away.
Feature Article

COW MILK DOES NOT MAKE THE BODY GOOD.
We’ve all heard the saying “milk does a body good”. Maybe you’ve even seen
the “Got Milk” ads while browsing through your favorite magazine. Although these ads
tickle your funny bone, and leave you with one heck of a smile, the question thrown out
for response is still left hanging. Do you have milk and if so, what kind?
For the health and well being of our patients and anyone reading our newsletter,
we offer the following well-documented information. And we answer the question of
what kind of milk is healthy for adults.
There are thousands of articles published in the “Medical” archives dealing with
milk. In summary, none of the reputable authors spoke of cow’s milk as an excellent
food, free of side effects and the ‘perfect food’ as we have been led to believe by the
milk industry. The main focus of the reports is on intestinal colic, intestinal irritation,
intestinal bleeding, anemia, allergic reactions in infants and children as well as
infections such as salmonella. Among children the problems were allergy, ear and
tonsil infections, bedwetting, asthma, intestinal bleeding, colic and childhood diabetes.
In adults, the problems are centered more around heart disease and arthritis, allergy,
sinusitis, and the more serious questions of leukemia, lymphoma, and cancer. There is
a rebellious web site, called www.notmilk.com, that outlines the many problems with
drinking milk. We can only hope that the milk industry will some day offer new and
significantly improved products without serious side-effects.
Cow’s milk is not Mother’s milk. The milk of every species of mammal is unique
and specifically tailored to the requirements of that animal. For example, cow’s milk is
very much richer in protein than human milk. Three to four times as much. It has five to
seven times the mineral content. However, it is markedly deficient in essential fatty
acids when compared to human mothers’ milk. Mothers’ milk has six to ten times as
much of the essential fatty acids, especially linoleic acid. Put simply, cow’s milk is not
designed for humans.
Nature gives us the ability to metabolize lactose for a few years and then shuts
off the mechanism. Is Mother Nature trying to tell us something? Clearly all infants need
Mother’s milk. The fact that so many adults cannot drink cow’s milk seems to be related
to the tendency for nature to abandon mechanisms that are not needed. At least half of
the adult humans on this earth are lactose intolerant. Certain racial groups, namely
African Americans, are up to 90% lactose intolerant as adults. Caucasians are 20 to
40% lactose intolerant. Asians are midway between the above two groups. Diarrhea,
gas and abdominal cramps are the results of milk intake in such persons. The milk
industry even admits that lactose intolerance plays intestinal havoc with as many as 50
million Americans.
Fifty years ago an average cow produced 2,000 pounds of milk per year. Today
the top producers give 50,000 pounds. How was this accomplished? Drugs, antibiotics,
hormones, forced feeding plans and specialized breeding. That’s how. The latest
high-tech onslaught on the poor cow is bovine growth hormone (BGH). This genetically
engineered drug is designed to stimulate milk production but, according to the hormone
manufacturers (if one believes them), does not affect the milk or meat.
WELL , WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Is there any health reason at all for an
adult human to drink cow’s milk? It’s hard to come up with even one good reason other
than a misinformed bad habit. But if you try hard, here are the best two: milk is a source
of calcium and a source of amino acids (proteins). In actuality, dairy products have an
excess of protein that actually interferes with calcium absorption. The countries with the
highest intake of dairy products are invariably the countries with the highest incidents of
osteoporosis.
So what are our choices instead of cow’s milk? An excellent choice is soymilk.
Soymilk is becoming very popular. There are many types: including, vanilla, chocolate,
strawberry and unsweetened. Drinking soymilk has the following advantages:
1
2
3
4
Soymilk is cholesterol free.
Soymilk lowers blood cholesterol and the risk of Heart Disease.
It contains cancer fighting isoflavones.
It is readily available from organic sources (containing no pesticides).
5)
In summary, non-organic cow’s milk contains pesticides from the feed as well as
BGH and antibiotics. Those substances, not naturally found in milk, are harmful to
humans, even in small quantities. Finally, cow’s milk, because of its high protein
blocking calcium absorption, lack of essential fatty acids, high mineral content, and high
lactose content is designed for cow and not for human adults.
Exercise Health
AccuSpina Health Clinic is constantly looking for ways to provide services that
meet the specific needs of our customers. To increase the awareness of physical
exercise and its benefits, AccuSpina conveniently provides an exercise room for
individuals to utilize at their leisure, including an exercise ball and an inversion table.
Customers who participate in the 20-session program receive a free exercise fitness
ball in addition to services provided.
Recent studies show that exercise balls are becoming more popular in fitness
programs worldwide. As a cost effective solution for balance, flexibility and strength,
patients find that exercise balls are convenient and reliable. The principal use of
exercise balls at AccuSpina is to help strengthen posture and to prevent back pain.
When on the ball, patient’s abs and lower back muscles must work diligently to keep
one upright, and through its use patients stabilize and neutralize muscles in the lower
lumbar and pelvic areas. Ideal for total body conditioning and especially the interstitial
muscles of the spine, exercise balls provide excellent results. You can get stronger
back muscles in just 10 minutes a day. Some folks combine their 10 minute exercise
with reading or working at their desk by gently bouncing from side-to-side.
At AccuSpina Health Clinic, we suggest the use of an inversion table after the
completion of our spinal program. The inversion table stimulates the circulation of blood,
reduces stress and provides an effective way to stretch and relax muscles. One may
purchase an inversion table through our website, www.spinesystems.com, or a
fully-assembled unit directly at our clinic. In conjunction with using the exercise ball,
the inversion table helps maintain the good spinal spacing and alignment achieved
through our pain free computer-controlled spinal disc rehabilitation program.
