I. Quick Review
 We have learned that every object in Spanish is either __________ or
____________.
 We also learned that when we talk about specific masculine / feminine
objects we use a definite article which is the equivalent of our English word
“_______”. The masculine Spanish definite article is _____ and the
feminine definite article is _______.
 And we learned that when we do not need a specific item but that any of
that item is fine, we use an indefinite article which is the equivalent of our
English word “___” . The masculine Spanish indefinite article is _____ and
the feminine indefinite article is _______.
II. Getting A Grip On English
We have been focusing our studies on single objects. What happens if we need
more than one of each item? Here’s what goes on in English.
definite article
the pen
the pens
the article “the” stays the same and the item becomes
plural by adding an “s”
indefinite article
a pen
some pens
the article “the” changes to “some” AND the item
becomes plural by adding an “s”
¡Así de fácil!
III. Applying what I learned about English to Spanish
The process in Spanish is very similar to what goes on in English but you also have
to keep in mind the masculine / feminine concept and the fact that there are
specific rules explaining how to make words plural.
bolígrafo (masculine)
definite article
el bolígrafo
los bolígrafos
the article “____” becomes plural by changing to “____”
AND the item becomes plural by adding an “____”
indefinite article
un bolígrafo
unos bolígrafos
the article “____” becomes plural by changing to “____”
AND the item becomes plural by adding an “____”
Let’s try the same exercise with a feminine word.
mochila (feminine)
definite article
la mochila
las mochilas
the article “____” becomes plural by changing to “____”
AND the item becomes plural by adding an “____”
indefinite article
una mochila
unas mochilas
the article “____” becomes plural by changing to “____”
AND the item becomes plural by adding an “____”
Be careful with nouns that are noun expressions.
Goma de borrar…..what is being made plural?
How do you make this expression plural?
