Silver Ribbon Campaign
The goals and objectives of the Silver Ribbon Campaign are to:
 Eliminate or reduce the stigma associated with mental illness through an education and
public awareness campaign.
 Create a climate within the school that will promote acceptance of students with mental
health problems.
 Provide educators with appropriate support and materials to implement an awareness
program about mental illness.
 Provide participants, high school students, staff and families with accurate information about
mental illness in a thought-provoking manner.
 Provide support to students who have family members/friends with mental illness and
students who have a mental illness.
 Provide students with the opportunity and resources to organize and initiate a public
awareness campaign regarding mental illness issues.
Specific Activities
 Provide a high school curriculum that teaches students about mental illness.
 Assist students as they organize a mental health awareness campaign in their community
 Provide mental health education and support to families in the high school community.
 Provide the Recognizing Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness in Children and Adolescents
curriculum for school staff and families.”
