DRUGS
Marijuana- a drug made from dried leaves and flowers of the hemp plant.
THC- The main active chemical in marijuana.
Amnesia- partial or total memory loss.
Ecstasy- a club drug pill, tablet, or capsule that speeds up the central
nervous system, making the person feel very alert or hyper.
Anabolic Steroids- Synthetic substances related to the male sex hormones.
 Increased heart rate
 Nausea and dizziness
 Elevated blood pressure
 Chills
 Sweating
 Increased sense of confidence
Club Drugs
1. Rohypnol- date rape drug
2. GHB
3. Ketamine (special K)
Narcotics
Narcotics- Specific drugs obtained only by prescription and used to
relieve pain.
 Good at controlling extreme pain
 HIGHLY addictive
1. Opium- Liquid from the poppy plant containing substances
that numb the body.
 Effect the brains pleasure center
 Physical and psychological dependence
 Highly addictive
Euphoria- a feeling of well being or elation.
2. Heroin- An illegal narcotic, highly addictive.




Can be inhaled,
injected, or smoked.
Respiratory problems
Death
Drowsiness and constipation
Diarrhea, vomiting, cold flashes, muscle and joint pain.
3. OxyCotin- legal narcotic that must be prescribed by a doctor.
Used for patients with cancer, back pain, or arthritis.
 Highly addictive
Stimulants
Drugs that speed up the nervous system by increasing heart
rate, pulse, and blood pressure.

 Heart failure
 Brain damage
Depressants
Substances that slow down normal brain function.
Doctors can prescribe depressants for:
 Sleeplessness
 Anxiety
 tension
Hallucinogens
Drugs that distort moods, thoughts, and senses.
Some are made from natural substances in plants, such as cactus and
mushrooms.
The user can not distinguish the difference between what is real and
what is not.
Examples:
 LSD
 PCP
Harmful effects:
 Increased heart rate and blood pressure
 Convulsions
 Heart and lung failure
 Broken blood vessels
 Chills and nausea
 Violent behavior
Inhalants- (whippets, poppers, snappers)
Any substance whose fumes are snuffed and inhaled to produce mindaltering sensations.

 Air freshener
 Lighter fluid
 Markers
 Pens
 White out
 Hair spray
Harmful effects:
