Distress Signal Light (Firefly Strobe Light)
This light is used to attract the attention of aircraft, ship, or ground parties.

Battery – Requires a 1.5V “AA” batteries
Note: Replace alkaline batteries annually. Also can use a Lithium battery and replace after 5 years
Operating Instructions:
(1) Turn ON. Push the switch up until it stops, then release. Light should begin flashing with
seconds.
(2) Turn OFF. Push the switch down until it stops, then release. The light should stop flashing.
(3) If you test this light and it fails to perform within operational limits, replace the battery. If it
still does not operate properly, remove it from service.
Emergency Signal Mirror
The mirror is used to attract the attention of passing aircraft boats or ground rescue teams
by reflecting light at them.

Operating Instructions:
(1) Hold the mirror with one hand at eye level and face halfway between the sun and an object
you wish to signal.
(2) Confirm that the sun is reflecting on the mirror by holding your other hand 6 to 8 inches
directly behind the view finder and noting the spot of sunlight coming through the hole and
reflecting upon your hand.
(3) Slowly bring the mirror up to eye level, and look through the sighting hole, you will see a
bright light spot, this is the aim indicator.
(4) Hold the mirror near you and slowly turn and manipulate it so the bright light spot is on the
target.
Signal Whistle
The sound produced by a whistle will get attention of rescuers and guide them to your location
during periods of restricted visibility, fog, and darkness, the sound it produces may be heard by
rescuers before they sight your distress signal light.

Operating Instructions:
(1) Place the reed part of a whistle between your lips and blow.
(2) If the whistle does not produce a distinct whistle-like tone, quickly turn the whistle over and blow
the water out the bail air relief hole and try again.
Rescue and Survival Knife
Basic tool used to free you from lines or cut materials blocking escape in event of capsizing or
sinking boat.
Tip must be blunted to prevent puncturing survival equipment.
Personal Marker Light (PML)
A PML is a device that uses either battery or chemical action to provide light for the wearer to
be seen during darkness.

(Note: below 32 degrees F, lasts longer, however with reduced intensity.)
Operating Instructions:
(1) Squeeze the handle to break the glass vials of activating the chemical. Compounds
suspended inside the tube.
(2) Remove the black sleeve.
(3) Squeeze the handle again if the PML does not light.
Personal Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (PEPIRB)
Used for emergency use only. Primary a distress signal and should be activated immediately to
signal for help.
Operating instruction:
(1) Open the flip-top lid.
(2) Grasp the handle part of the RED anti-tamper cover, and pull sharply away from the body.
This uncovers the START/ON button. The aerial will spring into an upright position as soon
as the anti-tamper cover is removed.
(3) Locate and press the large START/ON button located on the switch panel. The START/ON
button must be held down for about 1 second.
(4) The indicator lights will show the status of the unit. When the indicator lights are flashing,
the unit is transmitting. The unit will transmit for a minimum of 24 hours.
