Networking Cisco and Ascend router configurations, various firewall configurations, complex linux networks. Publications Howto setup a ldap based smtp/imap server: http://www.vriesman.tk Detailed employment history. August 2003 to September 2003, AOC Limburg. Linux administrator. The company Prompt hired me to solve a mail routing problem at AOC Limburg, working together with one other unix administrator from Prompt we had to setup 3 ldap based mailservers and make a system to route mail based on ldap data, using Suse linux , running postfix, openldap and courier imap. It was my responsability to make such a configuration work before the teachers of AOC Limburg started working. June 2003 to Juli 2003, Experian nederland b.v. Linux administrator, network administrator. Finishing documentation of previous work for Experian and handing over the administration to the Experian system administration and developers (two IT managers, five developers and three administrators). I was responsible for detailed documentation (using Lyx/LaYeX and inline programming with noweb), and making sure that Experian was able to handle all administrative tasks with respect to the Unix/Linux servers with nothing more than some phone calls and limited email support from me. At the moment they don't need my support anymore. Januari 2003 to June 2003, Experian nederland b.v. Linux administrator, mail administrator. Setting up an ldap based mail system using postfix, courier imap and openldap, running on Mandrake linux with failover, email backup, central storage and autoresponder. Working on my own and reporting progres to IT management I was responsible for making a mail system with the requested flexibility for Experian to be able to synchronize all their accounts and handle lots of different domains, autoresponders and forwarders. The configuration is documented on http://www.vriesman.tk and is used by many companies now. Januari 2003, Experian nederland b.v. Linux developer. Programming self-duplicating linux system, a system which duplicates itself when a new disk is inserted and creates a new partitioned bootable system without any human interaction, for standby and disaster recovery. Experian needed a way to keep their standby backup and disaster recovery systems in sync with production systems. This was done by a set of init scripts which are capable of completely duplicating a running system and on-the-fly and partitioning a new (autodected) disk to fit into a software raid system, even if the new disk is completely different from the disks in the running system. I programmed it using normal bash shell scripts, developing took one month, Januari 2003, and it's still used for most linux systems at Experian nederland b.v. July 1999 to December 2002. Linux system administrator. As a freelance linux administrator, working together with a dba and a clipper developer, I was responsible for setting up Mandrake and RedHat linux servers, for file serving, print serving, security, web servers, DNS, DHCP, sendmail and postfix configurations, squid proxie, oracle databases, cisco and ascend router configuration, and writing and implementing backup and recover procedures. I've been writing several perl programs and shell scripts. One of the interesting ongoing projects during this time was setting up and maintaining an active intrusion detention system, based on shadow and running on RedHat linux. This started June 1999 and is still running, the last upgrades were in 2003, in 1999 AID systems like snort were not as advanced as they are now, so Experian started using shadow, a linux based AID system which records all packet headers of the IP traffic going in and out the machines which have an internet connection. The shadow system is developed by the american navy and uses perl programs to analyse the traffic. Setting up this AID system involved perl programming and detailed analysis of ip traffic. Experian makes certain sensitive information available online for banks, police etc. The security of Experian Netherlands was my responsability, because of this advanced setup no one was ever able to compromise their security. February 1999 to June 1999, Mercedes benz. Working for LCI consultants, together with a dba I was responsible for upgrading an AIX HACMP cluster with SSA disk cabinets running a large oracle database, this involved detailed downtime planning and working at night to preserve production continuity. July 1998 to December 1998, CCM b.v. Linux administrator, perl developer. Together with a dba and a clipper developer I was responsable for programming a gateway between a large database, which processed information through a Novell filequeue, and a webserver, included perl (cgi), C (Linux kernel) programming and solving specific problems of Linux-Novell connectivity. This project was at CCM, which is now part of Experian, their information systems worked with an in-house developed clustered database system running on novell servers, communicating over X.25. In order to make the data available over tcp/ip they needed linux servers to translate the queued requests to http over tcp/ip. The project involved setting up linux servers (at that time Caldera was used because of it's novell conectivity), perl programming and solving linux-novell connectivity problems with file time-stamps and file-locking, to solve these problems I needed to debug linux kernel modules. It's still being used and I've made it into a flexible and failsafe load-balancing database interface system. March 1998 to June 1998, ING Bank. Working in a team of 12 people I was responsible for test management for the Chipper (chipcard online payment system) project, this included setting up a test network, managing a test team, making test plans (TMAP) and reporting back to the developers and project management. There were two test networks, both with a linux server/firewall, cisco routers and several windows workstations running the chipper application. Also a complete understanding of the chipcard payment process was needed to make the test plans. Besides making the testplans I also had the responsability for the communication of the results to the developers, programmers, managers and testers, this was a project with people from very different backgrounds working under a lot of time-pressure. Januari 1997 to December 1998, Experian nederland b.v. Unix administrator, network administrator. Together with progress dba's and two other system administrators, I was responsible for daily unix system administration tasks, documentation, backup, internet connectivity, mailservers and supporting users. A variety of systems was used at experian and maintained by me, AIX, Unixware, SCO, SVR4, Linux, PDP11, novell and NT. I initiated and planned and realized the use of linux to cut licence costs, and reduce system diversity. At the moment linux has become the company standard at Experian netherlands b.v. One of the other things I did there, together with an hardware expert is upgrading their entire network, from coax to 100Mb utp, and documenting it. Februari 1996 to December 1996, LASER computer europe b.v. Helpdesk, Linux administrator. Working in a team of 7 people we were handling support requests from other companies, planning on-site support, and administrating novell and linux servers, together we were also responsible for making OEM configurations of windows 95. Research Neural network heartbeat analysis. This was my first research project at TU Delft, computational physics department, the idea was to measure certain chaotic aspects of ECG's to predict fibrillation by letting a neural network filter out the ECG itself and analyse the left-over noise. It involved simulating neural networks and programming the backpropagation learning algorithm in C, and writing data conversion programs in PASCAL. It turned out to be unpractical compared to conventional signal analysis. The project took 3 months and started november 1994. Measuring the sound-coloring sensitivity of the human ear. This was done at the acoustic perception department of TU Delft, in order to design speaker arrays for sound reproduction with localization preservation it was needed to know the sensitivity of the human ear to sound coloring. This project involved PASCAL and DSP programming, setting up 2AFC experiments, statistical analysis, and designing analog filters. It took 6 months and started februari 1996. Other skills and interests Travel: A two month stay in a buddhist monestry in silent meditation. Languages: Fluent in Dutch and English. Music: Playing didgeridoo and piano. Electronics: Designing electronics, DSP (texas instruments) programming.
