( Approximate value $100.00) Volume 1 AQUAMAID’S” HANDY HINTS PLANTS FOR POOLS Clogged filters are the bane of every pool owner’s summer. Where nearby trees continually shed leaves, there is little that can be done to ease the burden. A request to the council to have offending trees removed usually fall on deaf ears, especially where the trees predate the pool. Windblown leaves can be reduced when tall hedges or shrubs are installed as a buffer. Space, of course, is essential. Where it is limited, screens constructed of lattice or similar can be effective. When selecting plants for around the pool, it is a common mistake to choose evergreens rather than deciduous species in the belief that they do not lose leaves. While deciduous plants have a period of massive leaf drops (usually autumn), they rarely shed leaves during spring & summer – The period when the pool is likely to be most enjoyed. It could be covered in autumn/winter. Evergreen species usually shed some leaves continuously. Eucalypts and casuarinas are renowned for the quantity they shed. Bamboos, so striking near water, are similarly prolific leaf droppers. Species with masses of small flowers or fruit, such as berries, should also be avoided. Bold foliaged plants not only look terrific beside water, they produce wonderful reflections from their large, sculptured leaves. It is far easier to remove them from the pool than small leaves. For this reason, palms & “tropical-looking” species are wise choices. (Extract from Your Domain – 12.2.2004) QUOTE FOR THE DAY Remember … the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of the low price has faded. PRODUCT OF THE MONTH Pool blocks …are the world leaders in slow release solid algicides using natural trace element blended with essential nutrients to control algae. Including blackspot & mustard algae in fibreglass, vinyl liner and concrete swimming pools. Simply add one pool block to the leaf basket in the skimmer box where the pool block slowly dissolve, treating the water of an average 50,000 litre size pool for up to five months against algae growth, substantially reducing the amount of chlorine needed in your pool. Your water sparkles with exceptional clarity compared to all other treatments. You save money on chlorine and get better results as pools can’t suddenly turn green and you eliminate ever persistent algae like blackspot on walls, steps or around rock waterfalls that chlorine can’t fix. Pool Blocks … store for years at full strength and only become active when dissolved in the water keeping your pool clean with less vacuuming, filtering or salt chlorination which saves electricity and makes maintenance a breeze. “IAN’S HINTS” When you backwash your filter run the top up water into the skimmer box. This means you are not wasting all your salt. Customers/aquamaidsnewsletter AQUAMAIDS WATER SAVING TIPS 1. Cover your pool & Spa. 2. Replace washers in leaky taps. 3. Install inexpensive water saving devices to taps and showers. 4. Install tap timers. 5. Collect water in a rainwater tank and use in gardening. 6. Match washing machine water settings to the size load. 7. Wash your car over the lawn so it gets watered too. 8. Instead of rinsing under running water, part fill the sink. 9. A timed, soaking water for your garden once a week will give better results than a quick water 3 times a week. 10. Set an example for your children, turn the tap off when brushing your teeth. SALT CHLORINATION VERSUS CHEMICALS There are several reasons why Aquamaid natural pool chlorination is better than using chlorine chemical. Economical - There’s a complete saving on the cost of chlorine chemicals. Fast - Aquamaid is chlorinating your pool/spa While the pump is running. Safe – Aquamaid uses natural salt a non hazardous chemical. Healthy - The mild antiseptic properties of salt chlorinated water helps to eliminate sore eyes & ears and soothes many skin conditions. Clean - The water is crystal clear as the electrolytic cell removes unwanted chemicals such as calcium, copper and other heavy metals. Simple – The Aquamaid Salt Chlorinator operates from the home power supply and can be left unattended for weeks.
