Nickell-Barkley – Saturday, 26 August 1944, Alva, Okla. Nuptials of Olive Nickell and bill Barkley Read Saturday Night In the First Methodist church Saturday evening, Rev. G. R. Vaughn, pastor of the First Christian church, performed the wedding ceremony which united Miss Olive Nickell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Nickell, 727 Maple St., and Bill Barkley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Barkley, College Campus. The church was decorated with large baskets of flowers. The single ring ceremony was preceded by a program of traditional nuptial music by Miss Lois Crandall at the organ and Miss Dorothy Nickell, sister of the bride, who sang “Because” accompanied on the piano by Mrs. J. V. Frederick. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Miss Helen Blumberg served as maid of honor and Thomas Jobe, Norman, was best man. Andrew Shupe, Norman, was usher. The bride wore an aqua blue crepe street length dress with rhinestone trimming and brown accessories. Her corsage was of orchids. The bridesmaid was dressed in a street length dress of cerise and wore a corsage of white gardenias. Mrs. Barkley was graduated from Alva high school in 1943 and attended the University of Oklahoma at Norman where she studied journalism. Petty Officer 1/c Barkley was graduated form Alva High School in 1939. He was radar operator on board the USS South Dakota after his enlistment in the navy in 1942. he has been in the Navy V-12 Unit at the University of Oklahoma since March of this year. He has recently been transferred to Radar school in Washington where He has recently been transferred to.
