Spelling Task Cards
Write your spelling words forward and
then backward. Write the words neatly in
your Spelling Notebook.
Example:

Pyramid write 10 of your spelling words. When
you are finished, draw a pyramid around your
word. Write neatly in your Spelling Notebook.

Choose ten spelling words.
You are going to write them two times.
Write them first in squiggly letters. Then
write them once more in regular letters.

Write six of your spelling words in
bubble letters neatly in your Spelling
Notebook. After you write your words in
bubble letters, color your words with
a crayon or colored pencil neatly.

Write ten silly sentences
using a spelling word in each sentence. Please
underline your spelling words! Write you
sentences neatly in your Spelling Notebook.
Example: My dog wears a blue and purple
dress when he takes a bath.

Write a paragraph using ALL of your spelling
words. Be sure to underline your spelling words
in your paragraph.
Don’t forget a topic sentence and a
concluding sentence! Write good 3nd
Grade “Fab” sentences in your paragraph!

Write EACH of your spelling words neatly in your
Spelling Notebook.
You will need a BLUE colored pencil. Trace over
ALL the vowels in each word with your blue
colored pencil.

Choose ONE of your spelling words. Write an
acrostic poem for that word neatly in your
Spelling Notebook.
You must also ILLUSTRATE your poem.

your Spelling Notebook.
1. Choose ten spelling words.
2. Add up each spelling word.
3. Write neatly in your Spelling Notebook.
Then go back and draw a circle around the
consonants and draw a square around the vowels.
*Consonants are worth 10. *Vowels are worth 5.
Ex. said 10 + 5 + 5 + 10 = 30

Choose 5 spelling words and write riddles
for these words. Don’t forget to add the
answer to your riddle. Write neatly in your
Spelling Notebook.

Choose EIGHT of your spelling words.
First write each spelling word neatly in your
Spelling Notebook. Think of a rhyming word
for each spelling word. Write the new
rhyming word next to your spelling word.

Think of a way to sort your spelling words.
Write your word sort neatly in your Spelling
Notebook.
You may want to sort your words by:
syllables, beginning sounds, part of speech
vowel sounds.

or dots, for example. Have fun and be

scrambled up. Then, unscramble the letters
and write the word correctly next to the
scrambled word. Be sure to write neatly in
your Spelling Notebook!

Count your spelling words. If you have 15 words,
draw 15 different shapes neatly inside your
Spelling Notebook. Then, write your spelling
words neatly inside each of the different shapes.

Classify your spelling words according to
syllables. Clap each spelling word quietly to
yourself to see how many syllables you hear.

Sort your spelling words according to their
part of speech: noun, adjective, verb,
other.
Make a chart in your Spelling Notebook

Write ten of your spelling words in dots.
Spell each of your spelling words with the
ScrabbleTM tiles. Then add up the point value
using the numbers on each tile. Write the
words in order according to their point value
from greatest to least. Write neatly in your
Spelling Notebook.

Roll a small amount of play dough into a ball. Turn
your ball of play dough into a play dough pancake.
Take a toothpick and carefully write a spelling
word in the play dough. With your finger, smooth
out the word and start over with another spelling
word. Write all of the spelling words this way.24
Then connect the dots by tracing
over them with a colored pencil.
Be sure to write neatly in
your Spelling Notebook.

Pretend you are a cheerleader and call
out the letters of your words!
Cheer up high for letters that touch the
top handwriting line (ex. t and l),
hands on hips for middle letters (ex. a
and e), and cheer down low for low
letters (Ex. y and j).

Draw a picture of a great big
flower. Write each of your spelling
words on one of the flower petals or
on a leaf. Draw extra flowers if you
run out of room.
Type your spelling words on the
computer. Make each word have
a different font. You can even
email your words to me.

Number the alphabet from 1-26.
Example: a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4, etc.
Then convert your words to a
number code.
You must write the actual spelling word next
to the “code word.”

long word (like a train). Use a different

Take a practice test. Have your Mom or Dad ask
you to spell your spelling words. Write them on a
list. Check your practice test and correct any
missed words. This would be an especially
good activity to complete on Thursday night.
