Blessed Pierre Giorgio Frassati
Young active man, brought his friends to church and was devout helping the poor and sick, gave
his money away and fought against facism and social injustice in Italy.
Blessed John Paul II
His focus was so much on the youth and evangelizing, especially in relation to Theology of the
Body. He was always wanting to be with students; he started World Youth Day bringing the
youth of the world together. He began the New Evangelization.
Blessed Theresa of Calcutta
She exemplified evangelization in her day to day life. First, she was open to God's will to start
the Missionaries of Charity which, among many things, shows a heart aligned with the Holy
Spirit and readiness to do God's will, both of which are central aspects of the presently charging
New Evangelization. Also, her serving the poorest of the poor demonstrates her heart and her
love for people. She clearly stated that the poorest of the poor in some countries are those that
have no material sustenance but in other countries the poorest people are those who, having
monetary wealth, lack love, faith, and hope. The New Evangelization targets all of these
poverties by bringing Christ and, if need be, bread. She was granted a Nobel Peace Prize and
known as one of the most respected and influential women in the world.
Blessed Sacrament
The reason for evangelization is to bring people in with God and we are most united to him when
we receive him in the most Blessed Sacrament.
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit came down upon people to inspire them to speak Gods word faithfully and allow
others to truly hear it. As a college based parish, this is largely our mission: to speak that others
may hear and learn.
Our Lady of Victory
She is a great inspiration to all, especially females.
Our Lady of Wisdom
Wisdom so as to pray to her for the wisdom to succeed. This can apply mainly to students, that
they have the wisdom to do well in their studies. This can also apply to the discernment of
vocations. In college, many students are discerning their vocation, and by praying to Our Lady of
Wisdom, they may be inspired by her and come to know what they are being called to.
Love of a mother; teacher of a youthful Jesus; Model of faith; Paradigm of evangelization
Resurrection
Jesus resurrected from the dead; this is why we are here.
St. Michael
He is the prince of the heavenly host and is out defender against the wickedness and snares of the
devil. We are all called to be part of the church militant inside the Body of Christ. He would be
the perfect name for the new parish because he will pray for us and aid us in our battle against
evil.
St. Augustine
He was a philosopher and theologian in the early Church. His writings influenced the
development of Christian thought and was declared a doctor of the Church. They still provide
inspiration to many songwriters today.
St. Ignatius of Loyola
A fitting patron, given the mission of the Student Center. Ignatian Spirituality, based on the
saint's classic, THE SPIRTUAL EXERCISES, is for everyday life. Ignatius insisted that God is
active in our lives and Ignatian spirituality leads to deeper prayer, good decision-making, and an
a life of active service to others.
St. Raphael
College students wrestle with God must like Jacob wrestled with st. Raphael. -He assisted Tobit
in his marriage, a lot of people find or are looking for their spouse in college. -archangel, I mean
really who better to walk with us on the crazy, dangerous road of college. -he brings messages of
hope and love to Gods people; bridge the gap, much like the CSC does now.
St. Timothy
1Timothy 4:12 "Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in
speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." St. Paul encouraged St. Timothy in these words
which apply also to college students.
St. Thomas Aquinas
He is one of the most influential philosophers and theologians in Christianity. He is the patron
saint of students and those who usually attend Mass here are/were students.
