Islamic Calender Reform:
The cubicle of Kaaba in Mecca reclaims its original glory when
the earth and the moon is placed at the time of Spring Equinox.
1.Kaaba, What it represents.
The cubicle of Kaaba in the great mosque of Mecca known as Kaaba sharif represents the natural
position of God or Allah. The universal center of observation may be said to be represented by the
cubicle at Kaaba. which also represents God the creator.
The center of observation within the human brain can be said to be the thalamus which can now be
linked with the bary center, the common center of gravity of the earth and the moon. We also experience
God in the mind at the thalamus. This thalamus can now be proven to have originated from the bary
center when God made man in his own image{Bible}. Thus earth moon center now called as the bary
center could be symbolized by Kaaba sharif. Modern science tells us that the moon goes around the
bary center every synodic month of 29 ½ days. The moon then can be said to go around the Kaaba ( ie
barycentre) too every lunar month.
To refer to the heavenly bodies it is also customary, both in astronomy and astrology, to fix the earth at
the spring equinox known as the first point of Aries. Thus Kaaba may be said to be the bary center with
the earth and the moon placed at or near the spring equinox, the first point of Aries. This condition is
easily realized if we celebrate Hajj at the twelth month near or just before the spring equinox and if we
start the first month of the Islamic calender just after the spring equinox each year and avoid slipping
away from this critical seasonal time. This is esily achieved with the help of a intercalary month every
third year. This auspicious time will, in all probabililty, help the Moslems to experience and visualize
Allah all the sooner. Since Hajj and the concept of Kaaba being a unique symbol and a lifetime
experience, it should be carefully planned and placed at the appropriate time for the benefit of our
Moslem brothers.
The Kaaba cubicle has four sides and these four sides look to the four directions of heaven. The only
time when the earth direction and the universal direction matches is when the earth is placed at the
spring equinox and no other time. The cubicle is basically as mentined above, the bary center, at the
center of the lunar orbit at the spring equinox. The lunar orbit is also enclosing the monthly earth wobble
which has its earth axis always pointing to the north to the pole star. The cubicle represents one God or
Allah at the center of the earth wobble too. As God rules over heaven it is right to think this heaven
extends on all directions from the earth or rather the bary center, the common monthly center of the
earth wobble and the moon.. The four directions of universal space may be said to be watched by the
one God, from the cubicle at Kaaba in Mecca representing the barycentre..
On further scrutiny, the four sides of the cubicle can be related to the moon's orbit in the month touching
the spring Equinox with the new moon in the east, the full moon in the west, the waxing eighth day in
the north and the the waning eighth day in the south direction. These are the four sides or aspects of
God whose vision is practically limited by the lunar orbit from the visual sense of the created human
beings. The four aspects of human inner vision centers at the thalamus in the human brain and
corresponds, in the universal sense, to the bary center at the center of the lunar orbit because Allah
created the human brain cortex with the help of the moon and its orbit. Out of all the lunar months, the
one during the spring equinox is special because then only all the universal directions match with the
standard direction of the earth which is established by placing the north star in the north and the sun as
Page 1 of 5
rising in the east. During the spring equinox, the sun also rises exactly at the east. At other times, the
sun rises somewhat north or southward from the true east.
The heavenly body in the north is the guiding star namely the pole star which guides all men to reach the
reality of heaven by its fixedness. This fixedness of heaven with fixed stars and the fixed sun is
practical eternity, in the human sense, being beyond practical time unit as we are used to experiencing
during our life time such as the day, the month and the year. The earthly time cycles of the day, month
and the year can be fixed here near the spring equinox at the full moon day in the morning time at
sunrise, as the very beginning of creation or beginning of 'time' itself. Then we can see that the fixed
pole star is in the north, the sun is fixed as it is rising in the east and the full moon setting in the west
points to the fixed stars of the zodiacs. It is conventional to start the lunar month from one new moon
to the other. The full moon thus falls at the middle of the lunar month. During the lunar month the moon
moves in its orbit with the center known as the bary centre itself. Thus when the Kaaba is placed at the
bary center, we get the feeling that God is watching the limit of the universe from there with the sun in
the east referred by the new moon and to the star world in the west referred by the full moon. This is a
natural fact and can be experienced every month or specially every year at the time of the spring equinox
with the north south earth directions also matching up with this east west directions..
Thus when we want to match the three principal heavenly bodies with the appropriate directions the
following arrangement is scientific and quite reasonable:
The pole star is in the north all round the year. So towards the north we should have the ploe star as the
natural limit of the universe. The sun rising in the east is the main attribute of the eastern direction. So in
the east we should place the universal sun in its truely fixed position as confirmed by science. The only
earth-moon position which matches for this set up is the spring equinox position of the earth and the
moon., because at the autumn equinox the east west direction does not match with the east west
universal direction. In the above position, if we consider the zodiac stars at the west [ in the direction of
the full moon], we have only the south direction for the moon itself. Thus the four sides of the bary
center or the Kaaba have the four heavenly bodies as follows: The pole star in the north, the sun in the
east, the zodiac stars in the west and the half moon in the south. But considering only the moon which is
naturally linked to the bary center and hereby represented by the Kaaba, we have the new moon in the
east face, the fullmoon in the west face, the waxing eighth day in the north face and the waning eighth
day in the south face of the cubicle. The three moon positions in the east, west and the north faces or
corners of the cubicle when extended, meet the sun, the stars and the pole star respectively as farthest
point of the universe. To the south, we have no other heavenly body but the waning eighth day or half
moon to represent the moon itself..Thus the divine location of the Kaaba is ascertained at the position of
the spring equinox. So it is naturally concluded that the Hajj representing the annual pilgrimage or the
visit to the Kaaba should be fixed at that seasonal time, and not in any other. In this way we glorify the
Kaaba, which although located on earth, can be considered to be the divine central location in the
universe of the sun and the stars in a scientific and reasonable way. Such symbolism will ultimately help
us to realize the universal truth when the sun is placed eternally at the center among the stars. We then
unify the day and night to attain the original divine spiritual background which , as it were existed
before the first day of creation when God created day and night(Genesis1,Bible) and before creating the
the Garden (earth orbit) too. There is no higher spiritual achievement than this for then we are fully
established in Eden or paradise, our eternal home.
2.This is what the “Report of the (Saha) Calendar Reform Committee “ - page 180, has to say:
“Hejira Calendar: The only purely lunar calendar (sic!) is the ‘Islamic calendar’, which has
been in vogue amongst the followers of Islam since the death of the Prophet Muhammad (632
Page 2 of 5
A.D.). But it is well-known that before this period Mecca observed some kind of luni solar
calendar in common with all countries of the Near East. The common story is that when pilgrims
from distant countries and other parts of Arabia came to perform Hajj at Mecca, (Hajj is a preIslamic practice), they often found that it was an intercalary month according to Meccan
calculations, when no religious festival could be performed, and had to wait for a month before
they were allowed to perform the rites”. (This means earlier it was a purely Vedic calendar in
Islamic countries as well since no auspicious/religious festivals are alowed in an adhika-masa,
which is known as samsarpa in the Vedas---and it is a purely luni-solar phenomenon as against
the purely lunar phenomenon which you want to follow now like all the Islamic countries of the
world)!
The “Report” says further: “It meant great hardships for distant visitors and to prevent recurrence
of such incidents the Prophet forbade the use of intercalary or 13th month and decreed that the
calendar should henceforth be purely lunar (sic!).
“It has now been shown by Dr. Hashim Amir Ali of the Osmania University, Hyderabad,
that the Mohammedan calendar was originally luni-solar in which intercalation was made when
necessary, and not purely lunar (sic!). This view-point has now been strongly supported by
Mohammad Ajmal Khan of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
“According to this view proper intercalation was applied in all the years where necessary
up to A.H. 10 and consequently the year A.H. 11 (coming next to the Hajj of A.H. 10) which
started on March 29, 632 A.D. (i.e. after the vernal equinox day) seems to have been a rather
normal year, and as such all the previous new-year days appear to have been celebrated on the
visibility of the crescent moon after the vernal equinox day”.
2. Islamic literature
It may be interesting to note the Islamic saying that milk {or knowledge} comes from the star, is boiled
by the sun and is frozen by the moon. This vision of the star, the sun and the moon perhaps occurs only
from the Kaaba in practice.
The zodiac star world mentioned above is known as the Kursi in the Islamic scriptures. The circle of
zodiac stars is the paradise or Eden, the ultimate home of God. The earth and the moon jointly orbiting
the sun is the garden where Adam or moon and Eve or earth were placed by God. The sidereal month of
27days is Adam when he has not eaten the forbidden fruit. After eating the fruit we get the synodic
month of 29 days where we have the waxing and the waning fortnights which is known to bear the fruit
of good and evil meaning happiness and sorrow. We thus have Adam as the moon and Eve as the earth
giving birth to Abel and Cain representing the good and bad aspects of life as the bright and the dark
fortnights respectively of the moon. But Allah is constantly seated at the center of the lunar orbit which
is the barycentre itself as the ultimate judge to reward the good and punish the evil. This bary center
representing the one Allah is in fact symbolized by the cubicle of Kaaba. It, as it were, watches the
whole of heaven from the rising sun in the east via the new moon, to the stars in the west via the full
moon.
We have also heard of the Angel Gabriel bringing a horse named Borak to take the prophet around
heaven. This round trip is the divine or true vision inside us, travelling around the cosmic or star world.
This is the vision of the circle of the zodiac stars, also ordinarily known as paradise or Eden, and known
as 'Kursi' in the Islsmic astronomical literature. As I am informed, Kursi is the world full of stars. It may
be said that there is eternal life there because the stars are not moving in the practical sense with respect
to our solar system and we transcend earthly time cycles when we visualize the fixed stars in their true
perspective..This fixedness of stars is a scientific fact and we do not have to doubt about it.

3. Calender reform how it can be done.
Calender reform is done by other religions like the Christians, Buddhists and the Hindus. So it is a
common practice among various religions. The Romans corrected their calender in the first century
before Christ and called it the Julian calender. Pope Gregory reformd the same calender in the sixteenth
century by matching up ten days with the original seasons. The Hindus have done it several times in the
past four thousand years and are presently processing such a correction in Nepal to shift all the festivals
one month backwards so as to match with the correct seasons. Thus it surely seems such seasonal
reform of calender by the Moslems will also help the common people. The Kaaba sharif was possibly
erected by Abrahim and Ismael at the spring equinox but the fact was forgotten by later generations.
Celebrating festivals at the appropriately fixed seasons is a way to reform, so that it is suitable to normal
human nature as humans are used to naturally give importance to the seasons..Perhaps the seasonal
fluctuation is not so much recognized by the Arabs, it becoming hot all round the year. But today since
Moslems are spread all over the world it would be reasonable to celebrate at fixed seasons and give due
importance to them.
Now it is said Moslems celebrate two festivals which are of great importance- (1).One month long
fasting on the ninth month of Ramadan with idul fitr at the end and (2.) Hajj on the first ten days of the
twelveth month with Bakri id for the last three days..
If we accept hajj at spring equinox with the full moon of the 12th month touching spring equinox , then
we would start the first Moslem month just after the spring eqinox.
The other id celebrated at the ninth month ie Ramadan then would occur at the winter solstice. Now this
is a grand idea with the hajj at the spring equinox and the id ul fitar at the winter solstice. It is said
Mohammed received his first reveletaion at the Ramadan- on the "night of power" falling within the last
10 days of the month of Ramadan. I believe that the actual event of "night of power" for the prophet
really occurred at or near the winter solstice only. This can be concluded from the fact that we go
nearest to the pole star at that time and from the cave of the mind, one can see the pole star in the north
and the sun directly in the south at that time. Eating at night during Ramadan is perhaps a way to watch
the pole star in the night when we can see it at the center of heaven. It is also possible that this fact was
forgotten while deciding to celebrate the festivals by the lunar year, with the year of 354 days was taken
as the basis. Then, this festival, naturally shifted over the seasons. Sticking completely to the moon may
have also been as a result of the revolt against the inaccurate solar year of 360 days represented then by
the 360 idols in Mecca. This inaccurate year was original adopted by the Egyptians when they left 5
days extra every year.
4. Advantages of calender reform
It is logical to celebrate the festivals at fixed seasons although it is also necessary to stick to the lunar
dates for the celebration of the festivals for spiritual considerations. There is very little spirituality
without the lunar consideration. Although only spiritual consideration may not be sufficient in the
mundane world it is absolutely necessary for the mental and spiritual peace and to create harmony in the
society. Thus we should create the lunar seasons with the help of a intercalary month to have the lunar
dates at particular seasons.
It is now discovered that God creates or evolves life with the help of the bio-clock which was also
referred, in the Bible, as the days of creation. It has also been found that the heart was evolved or created
by God with the help of the sun and the brain cortex with the help of the moon.{refer to The confluence
of religions- a scientific perspective by this author). Consideration of only the sun may improve our
politics and economy but not spirituality. For improving both our economy and spirituality,
consideration of both the sun and the moon is thus absolutely necessary. Kaaba representing all round
Page 4 of 5
development should be the center of the twelth lunar month considered at the spring equinox. Then it
will represent all round development by matching with the all round universal directions.
This seasonal importance is well known in various religions. Christians corrected 10 days in the 16th
century and the Hindus are correcting one month now in Nepal to reach seasonal accuracy. It has been
found that Hindus have corrected the seasons thrice in the last four thousand years and this would be the
fourth time now. In this context, the question arises, what is wrong if the Islam calender is also corrected
now for the convenience and general welfare, both material and spiritual, of the Moslem brothers
scattered all over the world? In fact Islam is not a rigid religion in principle, as it advocates so many
prophets of the various religions including Abrahim, Moses and Jesus and proposes to reconcile them
all. This internal reform will perhaps strengthen them and help liberate them from the external
oppression they are suffering in many countries and places in todays' world. Even if none of the above
advantages occur, it will at least make it convenient for them to know the season when their festivals are
to be celebrated. This itself is a sufficient reason for reform, in today's busy world, to assign particular
seasons to festivals for the convenience of our Moslem brothers.
