Analyze how actions or dialogue helped you understand one main character. In the drama script, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the author’s purpose was to explore the way even the best of men, Macbeth, could be corrupted by power. The actions of Macbeth become more and more extreme and evil as the drama script develops, as Macbeth becomes insecure about his power he makes attempts to further regain his grasp on power. I like the way you have developed this argument so far Shakespeare shows this by portraying the desperate actions by Macbeth to gain some security. Macbeth betrays his loved ones and friends for his ambition corrupted by power, ‘Thou canst say I did it’ which Macbeth shouts out while seeing the ghost of Banquo, the dear friend he ordered to be assassinated. Macbeth meeting up and cooperating with the witches in a bid to know the future of his power and the effect the iron fist of Macbeth has on the people of Scotland. After the greatest battle won by the ‘Brave and worthy Macbeth’ dubbed by King Duncan, were the witches, witches whom prophesized Macbeth as future Thane of Cawdor and King hereafter, the witches action planted seeds of corrupt ambition in Macbeth. Lady Macbeth, the wife of Macbeth manipulates him and plays on his ambition for power, eventually convincing Macbeth to commit the worst form of treason, murdering his king and framing the heir to the throne and claiming the crown for himself. The murder of king Duncan marked the beginning of the mayhem and havoc Macbeth will have on the Scottish nation. You need to make some mention of the question here’s his brave actions have brought him to the attention of the king, but it is his skills in battle that ultimately lead to his downfall As the drama script develops Macbeth’s mental power is lost as he is gripped with paranoia. The thought of losing physical power is enough for Macbeth to order the murder of Macduff’s family, even a young child incapable of doing any harm to him. Macbeth’s paranoia leads him to the witches, who brew up a concoction which gives Macbeth hallucinations of the future, giving Macbeth mental assurances with prophecies such as, ‘No man born of woman will harm him’ and ‘Never defeated until the great Birnam woods travels’ Macbeth’s insecurities are relative to modern day situations, the great lust for power are portrayed by Macbeths actions. – the whole idea of power corrupting is important and his actions allow the audience to see this As Macbeth grew with more physical power, his mental security because to diminish, this is the dwarf in giants clothes and as Macbeth began to feel less safe inside his head, more people who were thought by Macbeth as threatening were murdered by his army. Threats such as his best friend, Banquo, whose prophecy by the witches was that he would be ‘father to a line of kings’ So how does this action enable us to understand him?? However, Macbeth felt guilt in ordering his murder, ‘Banquo, thy souls flight, if it find heaven, may it be tonight’ leading to the abandonment from Scotland by many of Macbeth’s friends, fleeing to England to wage war on Macbeth’s reign of terror. Shakespeare’s drama script, Macbeth portrays the effect power has on man, even the best of men Good The never ending search for absolute power corrupts good – see my comment berfore and eventually became Macbeth’s downfall. Macbeth began as a noble worthy soldier and ended as a tyrant, having done desperate attempts for power such as eliminating his best friend for some mental stability. However his actions after meeting with the withces and goaded on by the arguments of his wife lead ultimately to his downfall For associating himself with the witches by meeting up and requesting the aid of witchcraft for greed, Macbeth fell down a dark well of evil when he had his first encounter with the witches. Remember to link back to the question at the end. Very good discussion in places. ET5
