21th February/Febreru 2001 Infectious Disease Surveillance and Epidemic Preparedness (IDSEP) Unit World Health Organization, Dili, East Timor, in collaboration with the Division of Health Services of the Department of Social Affairs, ETTA Week 06/2001 (04/02/2001-10/02/2001) Semana 06/2001 Important points: This week 57 cases of bloody diarrhoea were reported from bobonaro district up from 7 cases last week. Acute febrile illness cases have dicreased from 234 last week to 200 this week. Formal reports: For week 6 the IDSEP unit has received reports from 8 out of 13 districts rapresenting 10470 consultations from 9 agencies operating 50 fixed and mobile facilities. The two districts with the highest number of cases reported per 100,000 inhabitants were Lautem with 5130 and Manatutu with 3258. A sharp increase in cases of bloody diarrhoea from 7 last week to 57 this week was reported by Bobonaro district. The majority of cases 28 were diagnosed by the personnel of Bobonaro Kota MC in Bobonaro sub-district After the last week increase, the cases of acute febrile illness have dicreased this week to 200. Only one case of measle and one case of suspected meningitis were reported this week. Only one death caused by lower respiratory infection in a child less than 5 years old was reported this week from Lautem district. There were no reported cases of acute flaccid paralysis or neonatal tetanus this week. Informal report: Only few scattered cases of dengue are reported by PKF in the last 2 weeks.
