Bacteria (GREEN) II: Wanted Poster Students will use Chapter 6, Section 3 to create a "WANTED" (think Wild West or police search) poster for bacteria. Students may make a "WANTED" poster representing either unlawful, harmful bacteria, or desirable, helpful bacteria. Color picture/graphic of the cell (may be hand drawn or computer generated; may include facial features, clothes, props, ect.) Genus and Species name (may be real or fictitious name, use correct punctuation) Explanation for why the bacteria is wanted (Harmful ex: strep throat, vomiting, food poisoning, spoiling food OR Helpful ex: food digestion, cheese, yogurt, medication) Description of physical characteristics (ex: spherical, rodlike, or spiral shape, color, etc). Where you would find the bacteria (Last seen.....ex: in the intestines, cheese factory, hiding in a pond, the bottom of your shoe) Create a taxonomic key for the bacteria IV: Answer the questions What is a virus? What is the shape and size of virus? What is the structure of virus? Why are antibiotics not used to treat viral infections? Students may make a "WANTED" poster representing unlawful or harmful bacteria. Students may use their text book or Internet to research a type of bacteria. Include: Picture of the bacteria: Genus and Species name (may be real or fictitious name, use correct punctuation) Explain why is the bacteria is wanted (Harmful ex: strep throat, vomiting, food poisoning, spoiling food) Describe physical characteristics (ex: spherical, rodlike, or spiral shape, color, etc). What is the shape and size of virus? What is the structure of virus? Protist/ Fungi (GREEN) II: Create an imaginary protist from the planet Volvox. Describe the main characteristics of the imaginary protists. Describe how the imaginary protist can be helpful and harmful to humans. Create a dichotomous key for the protist. IV: Make a brochure creating the importance of the fungi Page one of your brochure is your title page and it should include this information: the name of your fungi your name a drawing without labels, Page two of your brochure should contain information that explains as many of the following items as possible: Define fungi, cell structure, how it reproduces, how it gets food and classification Page 3 should contain any info you can find about: the importance of this group of organisms to humans the importance of this group of organisms to other things in our world Page 4 should contain a detailed drawing, either by a computer or by hand, that shows the important structures of your type of living thing. For example: a drawing of a mushroom that contains the major parts. Protist/ Fungi (YELLOW) II: Create a concept map Write characteristics of Protist 3 column notes on 3 types of protist Examples of the 3 kinds of protozoans.
