Wednesday April 28th Lesson Activities Warm Up Have students take turns asking their assigned partner the questions they created for the homework assignment. These should be questions they might typically ask a friend about what they did over the weekend. Once both students have responded to each question in the preterite, have students find a new partner. They will complete the activity 2-3 times to practice using the preterite tense. Board Races Give two students a dry-erase marker and ask them to come up to the board. After giving them a verb and form (e.g. pagar in the yo form), they will race to conjugate it correctly in the preterite tense on the board. Then they will give their dry-erase marker to another student in the class who will be the next to conjugate on the board.Continue the activity until most students have had an opportunity to participate. Direct Object Pronouns Have students follow along as volunteers read the Gramática box on page 360 of the textbook. Then review the use of direct object pronouns by giving random students a sheet of paper with a giant word (e.g. Elena, compró, el, anillo) and having them form a sentence at the front of the class. Then give another student a sheet of paper with the respective direct object pronoun (e.g. lo) and ask them to replace the noun. Emphasize the need to place this direct object pronoun before conjugated verbs or attached to the end of unconjugated verbs. ¡No Compraron Nada! Have students work with a new partner to complete Actividad 19 on page 360 of the textbook. They will use both the preterite tense and direct object pronouns to write sentences describing what items people did not buy yesterday. Call on random students to share their responses with the class. Outlines Discuss the use of an outline to organize the central arguments of an essay. Give several examples of effective outlines. As time permits, have student volunteers participate to create a short outline on the Smart Board, as if for the Opposing Viewpoints Essay assignment. Homework Remind students that the Opposing Viewpoints thesis and outline are due on Friday.
