Lake Mead – Geology of the Northshore Road Course Syllabus Geology 299 Spring 2010 2 credits COURSE GOALS: Examine unique geologic features and formations Explain the geologic history and geologic processes that formed the landscape Learn about the mineral resources Discuss and examine historical and ecological sites Experience the geology and scenery TOPIC AND READING SCHEDULE – attached DISABLED STUDENTS: Great Basin College supports providing equal access for students with disabilities. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: Hands-on experience in the field Handouts, notebook Examine maps and common rocks and minerals Class discussion and questions are encouraged Class participation and attendance are important EVALUATION AND GRADES: Evaluation and grades will be determined from class participation, notebook, attending the field trip, and a final exam. MATERIALS: All maps, charts, and discussions will be provided. Attendees must provide their own reliable transportation – preferably with four wheel drive. Meals and motels are the student’s responsibility. Camera, binoculars, hand lens and other outdoor gear are recommended.
