Mitosis Stations Activity
_____ / 47 = _______%
Use this handout to complete your work for this activity. You may not complete the stations in order, so
pay close attention to where you are and which station you are at.
Station #1: The Cell Cycle
Diagram and label and color-code the cell cycle in the space provided below. Explain what is
happening in the stages – write this at the appropriate spot outside of your diagram.
You must include the following words (either as labels or in your descriptions): Anaphase, Checkpoint,
Copy, Cytokinesis, Gap 0, Gap 1, Gap 2, Growth, Interphase, Metaphase, Mitosis, M Phase, Prophase, S
(Synthesis) Phase, Telophase (16 pts)
Station #2: PMAT
Using the prepared slide of the onion root tip, get the slide into focus under high power. Diagram one cell
from each of the four stages of mitosis in the appropriate boxes below. Then, describe what is happening
in the nucleus and with the cell. (8 pts)

Description
Station #3: Plant Cell vs. Animal Cell Cytokinesis
Do a venn diagram in the space below comparing and contrasting plant and animal cell cytokinesis. (5pts)
Station #4: Time for Mitosis (and Interphase)
Using the following data, calculate the percentage of how many of the total cells are in each stage and then
determine the amount of time needed for each stage to be completed. After completing the calculations
and filling out the chart, make a pie chart that graphs the % for each stage. (18pts)
