TITLE OF POST: Post Doctoral Researcher/Research Fellow in Engineering Adaptive Security, Privacy and Forensics (4 positions) LOCATION: University of Limerick REPORTS TO: Project Leader CONTRACT TYPE: Specific Purpose SALARY SCALE: Post Doctoral Researcher: €37,750 - €46,255 p.a. Research Fellow: €51,716 - €56,442 p.a. JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS: PhD (completed or at final stages of completion) in Software Engineering, Security Engineering (including privacy and/or forensics), Ubiquitous Computing, or equivalent. OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Position 1: Engineering Adaptive Security: The Post Doctoral Researcher/Research Fellow will work in a team of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students under the supervision of Prof Bashar Nuseibeh (UL). The team’s research lies at the intersection of three areas: (1) software engineering (especially requirements engineering and software design) (2) adaptive and autonomous (self-managed) systems, and (3) security, privacy and forensics. The team aims to re-conceptualise ways in which software is developed for modern and future systems. These systems are increasingly mobile and ubiquitous, socio-technical, and cyber-physical. As a result, the team’s research is often multi-disciplinary (including considerations of human factors in software/system design) and pragmatic (focusing on rigorous engineering discipline and prototype tool development). The theoretical foundations that underpin such systems are also of interest, with the aim of providing dependability and assurance. To be appointed at Research Fellow, the candidate is expected to have a strong publication record in the top-tier outlets in software engineering, security engineering or ubiquitous computing. The person must have a good understanding of the needs of both academic and industry audiences. S/he will have significant experience post-PhD. Position 2 (Adaptive Credentials): The Post Doctoral Researcher/Research Fellow will work closely with colleagues to develop a framework to support adaptive credentials, to determine at runtime whether or not a user or device are authorized to request and provide a service. This determination is computed with input from a number of sources, including any existing predefined requirements and policies, a number of contextual factors including prior usage history and known threats, and a trade-off analysis of the consequences providing or withholding authorization. Position 3 (Topology Driven Forensic Readiness): The Post Doctoral Researcher/Research Fellow will work closely with colleagues to develop, implement and evaluate an approach that maintains a live representation of building topology representing its structure and the location of assets and agents. This representation allows engineering a security system that is forensics ready that facilitates the identification and collection of evidence at runtime, both proactively and reactively in response to key triggers, such as patterns of breach and actual harm. Job description Position 4 (Adaptive Compliance in the Cloud): The Post Doctoral Researcher/Research Fellow will work closely with colleagues to design and evaluation of modeling and reasoning techniques to support adaptive compliance in the cloud, which aims to identify changing jurisdictions where data resides and to apply adaptation actions to maximise the satisfaction of security and privacy requirements and regulations. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with Lero’s industry partners and other international research partners around the world. The research is also closely aligned with existing research projects, such as the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant on Adaptive Security and Privacy (www.asap-project.eu). The Post Doctoral Researcher/Research Fellow will be expected to work independently, and to oversee the activities of a number of the junior researchers and PhD students. DESCRIPTION: Essential Criteria: PhD (completed or at final stages of completion) in Software Engineering, Security Engineering (including privacy and/or forensics), Ubiquitous Computing, or equivalent. Evidence of ability to publish high quality research at international conferences and journals. Evidence of strong effective communication skills (verbal and written). Strong interpersonal skills and experience of working collaboratively with others. Evidence of ability to work independently. Desirable Criteria: Experience of developing prototype software tools for demonstration and/or evaluation of research work. Experience of conducting qualitative of quantitative empirical work as part of main stream research and/or evaluation. Experience of successful interaction with industrial stakeholders on research problem and/or solutions. Required To Be Appointed at Research Fellow Level: Have a strong publication record in the top-tier international outlets in software engineering, security engineering or ubiquitous computing. Good understanding of the needs of both academic and industry audiences. S/he will have significant experience post-PhD. S/he will have experience in supervising other researchers.
