PHYSICS C/HL UNIT 2 STUDY GUIDE
Define distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration
Identify which are vectors and which are scalars
Define and differentiate between instantaneous and average values
State the relationships among displacement, velocity, and
acceleration.
Memorize the equations relating displacement, velocity, and
acceleration under conditions of uniform acceleration: V=S/T, A=V/T
Derive and use the 4 equations of motion under uniform acceleration
S=S0 + V0T + ½AT2, V = V0+ AT, Vave = (V + V0)/2, V2 = V02 + 2AS
Solve problems of motion under conditions of uniform and nonuniform acceleration.
Plot and describe the motion from a distance, displacement, velocity,
or acceleration graph given the data.
Calculate slopes and areas for the above graphs when acceleration is
constant.
Plot displacement or acceleration from a velocity graph, and plot
velocity from a displacement or acceleration graph.
Recognize linear and parabolic curves on a graph.
Memorize the metric value of acceleration experienced on earth due
to gravity.
Solve problems of motion under conditions of gravity.
Describe the vertical motion of an object in uniform gravity.
Describe dimensional motion (components, magnitude, direction of
velocity and acceleration) given x(t).
Find terminal velocity of a body moving through a fluid when the
resistance force is proportional to velocity, and describe qualitatively
using graphs, the acceleration, velocity, and position of such a
particle.
