Geometry Syllabus 2016-2017 Mr. Gonzales-Room 107 Welcome back! I believe you will find this class to be interesting with an opportunity to learn many important lifelong skills. Geometry is not taught the same as it was several years ago. The textbook we are using is written with more practical problems and scenarios. We will learn more about the application of geometry in the real world. How can parents assist in the learning process? Check Power School weekly if you have Internet access. If your child does poorly on a test, encourage them to come in for help in order to retake the test. Support the school regarding the cell phone policy. Students are not to be using their cell phones in class. If they are using their phone for texting, social media, or games, their phone will be confiscated and given to the office. Geometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement, properties, and relationships of lines, angles, surfaces and solids. What students should expect in this geometry course. You will receive two textbooks for the class. A student text and student assignment book. You will have to finish many assignments from the textbooks outside of class. You will take a test worth 100 points at the end of each unit. You will be assigned a quarterly project that may be a project to hand in or a project to upload to Moodle. What Mr. Gonzales will expect from each student. Bring your book and pencil to class everyday. Detention will be assigned for failing to bring your book after the 3rd time during a semester. Do your own work. Be respectful to everyone in the class. Don't use your cell phone and keep it out of sight. A tardy is 5 minutes after the bell. Required Material Folder to keep materials in. Protractor, centimeter ruler, and compass. Pencil is preferred. Yellow, red, or orange pens are not accepted. How you will be graded each semester. % of grade Assignments (class assignments and homework)- 5 pts each 20% Quarterly project- 50 points per project 20% Tests (retakes are available)- 100 points each 60% Late assignments will have a 10-50% grade reduction, depending on the amount of time you take to turn it in. You have 3 weeks to turn in a missing assignment, then it becomes a 0. When retaking a test, the highest score you can receive on a retake is 90%. If your retake score is lower, you keep the first score.
