Currently: Cardiff University, Wales, UK. School of Biosciences, Genetics Department. 3rd year
PhD student in Professor Alan Clarke group. Project title: 'Epigenetic modification of the Wnt
pathway mediated by BRG-1'. Funded by The Darwin Trust of Edinburgh PhD Scholarship.
Edinburgh University, Scotland, UK (2005-2007) BSc with Honours Degree in Molecular
Biology, 2(i). Funded by The Darwin Trust of Edinburgh Scholarship.
Belarus State University (BSU), Minsk, Belarus (2002 – 2005, 2007 - 2008). BSc degree in
Genetics.
High School (2000 - 2002). Graduated from Lyceum of Belarus State University, ChemistryBiology class.
Awards and Achievements
Academic contests:
(2000): Republican Chemistry Olympiad – Second Prize;
 (2001): Republican Biology Olympiad – First Prize;
 (2002): Republican Biology Olympiad – First Prize; 13th International Biology Olympiad, Riga,
Latvia – Second Prize
Scientific contests:
 (2000): Republican Contest of Student’s Scientific Projects; 8th International Ecological Project
Olympiad (INEPO), Antalya, Turkey;
 (2001): Republican Contest of Student’s Scientific Projects – Third Prize;
 (2002): Republican Contest of Student’s Scientific Projects – Second Prize
For the achievements in academic and scientific studies I was three times awarded the
President of Belarus Funded Scholarship – the highest academic award a high school student can
receive in Belarus and once Minsk City Council Scholarship; {Not sure if the scholarship by
president of Republic of Belarus is a good thing to mention in US}
Publication: Russkikh I., Khramtsova E., Holik A., “in vitro” preliminary test: antagonism of
some microbial organisms and Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola. / Plant physiology. Finland.:
Science Publishers INC.-2002. P. 133-134.); {I should probably remove that as it has s happened years
ago and there’s no way to validate it}

Current Research
My PhD project is focused on studying the role of Brg-1 (SWI/SNF chromatin remodelling complex
ATP-ase) and its interaction with Wnt pathway in the murine small intestinal epithelium. It involves
the use of mouse models in order to conditionally inactivate Brg-1 in small intestine both in normal
and Wnt-activated background. The effects of Brg-1 deficiency are then to be analysed by a range of
approaches from immunohistochemistry to transcriptome analysis.

Computer sciences: basic skills in programming (Pascal, Perl) and use of open source
operating systems (Linux);
Martial arts: Iaido, Kung-Fu (blue belt) and Chi-Kung (President of Chi-Kung society of
Edinburgh University, 2007);
Mountaineering and Climbing: I organised small expeditions to Ukrainian Carpathians,
Caucasus and Polar Urals. I also attended winter climbing trips to Kola Peninsula, North Wales
and Scotland as a member of various mountaineering clubs.
