Anthr 105 Biological Anthropology Lab Dr. Bolter Exercise Blood Problems Blood type is a 3 allele system—A, B and O. Both A and B are codominant and produce anitgens A and B. The O allele produces no antigens, and is therefore recessive. The Rh factor is a simple two allele system, inherited as either + (positive-dominant) or – (negative-recessive). M, N and MN is another locus affecting the blood. MN blood types are determined by two codominant alleles. The genotype MM produces the M phenotype. Genotype NN produces the N phenotype. Genotype MN produces the MN phenotype.) Problems: Show your work. 1. Given the following matings and the blood types of the parents, what would the blood types of the offspring be? Give all possibilities and their probabilities. a. O x O d. O x AB b. O x A (homozygous) e. A x B (both heterozygous) c. O x A (heterozygous) f. AB x AB 2. In a recent court case, a man of blood type A was accused of fathering a child of blood type B. The mother was blood type AB. Could this man have been the father? A man who is type MN mates with a woman who is type N. Give the possible blood types of their offspring and the probabilities for each. 4. A woman is blood type A, Rh-positive (heterozygous for both), and her mate is O, Rh-positive (heterozygous). Give the possible blood types of their offspring and the probabilities for each. 5. For the following mating give the possible blood types of the offspring and the probabilities for each: O, Rh-positive (heterozygous), M, and her mate is AB, Rh-negative, MN.
