Election—To the Praise of His Glory
1 Peter 1:1-2
(1 Pet 1:1-2 NKJV) Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus,
Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, {2} elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in
sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and
peace be multiplied.
“Elect…”—To the Praise of His Glory
(Eph 1:3-6 NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, {4} just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, {5} having predestined us to adoption as
sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, {6} to the praise of the glory of
His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.
(Eph 1:11-12 NKJV) In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose
of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, {12} that we who first trusted in Christ
should be to the praise of His glory.
(2 Th 2:13-14 NKJV) But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord,
because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the
truth, {14} to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(1 Pet 2:9 NKJV) But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people,
that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
(1 Cor 1:27-31 NKJV) But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God
has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; {28} and the base things
of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing
the things that are, {29} that no flesh should glory in His presence. {30} But of Him you are in Christ Jesus,
who became for us wisdom from God; and righteousness and sanctification and redemption; {31} that, as it is
written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD."
“…according to the foreknowledge of God the Father”
(John 15:16 NKJV) "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear
fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
(Rom 3:11 NKJV) There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.
(Rom 10:20 NKJV) But Isaiah is very bold and says: "I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made
manifest to those who did not ask for Me."
(Eph 2:8-9 NKJV) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of
God, {9} not of works, lest anyone should boast.
(Deu 7:6-8 NKJV) "For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to
be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. {7} "The LORD did
not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were
the least of all peoples; {8} "but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which
He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the
house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
(Rom 9:6-21 NKJV) But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are
of Israel, {7} nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, "In Isaac your seed shall be
called." {8} That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children
of the promise are counted as the seed. {9} For this is the word of promise: "At this time I will come and Sarah
shall have a son." {10} And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father
Isaac {11} (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God
according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), {12} it was said to her, "The older
shall serve the younger." {13} As it is written, "Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated." {14} What shall we
say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! {15} For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on
whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion." {16} So then
it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. {17} For the Scripture says to
Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may
be declared in all the earth." {18} Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.
{19} You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?" {20} But indeed,
O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you
made me like this?" {21} Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel
for honor and another for dishonor?
“…in sanctification of the Spirit”
(Titus 3:5 NKJV) not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
(John 6:44 NKJV) "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up
at the last day.
(2 Tim 1:9 NKJV) who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but
according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,
(2 Cor 4:6 NKJV) For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts
to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
“…for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ”
(Col 3:12-14 NKJV) Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness,
humility, meekness, longsuffering; {13} bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a
complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. {14} But above all these things put
on love, which is the bond of perfection.
(Titus 1:1-2 NKJV) Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's
elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, {2} in hope of eternal life which
God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
(Eph 2:10 NKJV) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared
beforehand that we should walk in them.
“Grace to you and peace be multiplied.”
