Terms of Reference – Medway Adult and Community Learning Service to be
now known as Medway Community Learning
Action Points
Heather to update Terms of
Reference and put onto Moodle.
Mark Easton, Business Manager, strategic lead for Safeguarding in Kent.
Antoinette Barnes updates all policies, etc.
Job description outlining role of SG Officer

Safeguarding Training:
Mark to send out new version to
group.
Kent – mandatory training on Moodle – they are able to track who has done the
training.
They have a KSCB certificated training course on Safeguarding run through the
KCC Safeguarding Board planned for 11 July that they have available spaces on
that SEQUIN group can use. Carol Lambert will send out more details.
Medway – writing a new module to go on Moodle along with a workbook that
learners can do – draft was available to look at. Going to combine Health &
Safety with Safeguarding.
Surrey – have an initial awareness pack which is paper based (Moodle not up
and running yet) with a quiz at the end. They also have a mandatory two-hour
attendance unit for Support Learning Curriculum Leader, etc.

E-safety:
Discussion on e-safety procedures, policies, software restrictions, blocks on
student computers that aren’t managed by KCC ICT.
Medway to look at improving their e-safety and having a statement in their
existing safeguarding policy – included in their new training package.
Kent.
E-safety to go on our new posters.
Heather had downloaded the LSIS e-safety unit, which has been dropped into
the LSIS online Safeguarding course and printed it off. Copies done for Kent
and Surrey.
Mark to arrange with Carol to send
out details of training.

Moodle Safeguarding Forum:
Sue showed group the SEQUIN Safeguarding Forum on Moodle. Discussion
around what Moodle can do.

Safeguarding Posters:
Discussion around existing posters and then brainstorm of new posters:










Adults at Risk (of harm)
Partnership to create safe working environment (S.W.E.)
How do we get them to understand S.W.E?
How we make it accessible – is there terminology that we need to use?
2 versions – more sophisticated – 16-23 age group
Range of adults at risk – ESOL Learners
Rotational Posters
Being Safe
Keeping Safe
Respect
Posters to include:
 Physical – domestic – self harm
 Psychological/emotional (use different term – feelings?

Group to use Forum more regularly

works at Treloar – it was suggested that she may have some posters that we
could get some ideas from.

Any Other Business
Kent had an inspection and questions were asked about what Inspectors were
looking at: risk assessments, health and safety, asking learners and staff how
safe they felt, marking up of potentially dangerous substances, the level of
supervision to young people, checking policies, etc.
