6th Grade Literature – Vocabulary / Spelling Along with different types of literature, the students will be responsible for vocabulary units from the workbook Vocabulary Workshop Level A. New words are introduced over a two-week period. A spelling test is given on the Friday of the first week. A vocabulary test is given on the same words the Friday of the second week. Cultural Literacy 1. Three Core Knowledge spelling words will be added to each vocabulary unit. (A total of 23 words will be on the spelling test.) 2. Two different Core Knowledge word parts will be added to each vocabulary unit. Students will be expected to define the word part for the vocabulary test. 3. Students will receive two Cultural Literacy / Core Knowledge sayings or phrases each week. They will study ten of these per nine weeks for a 100 point test. (Each student has a separate folder of sayings and phrases.) Spelling Homework – 1st week Monday – Write all 23 words 3x each in the back of the Literature notebook. Tuesday – Using Quizlet, write the part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and definitions for words # 1-10. Print and place in the back of your Literature notebook. Wednesday – Using Quizlet, write the part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and definitions for words # 11-20. Print and place in the back of your Literature notebook. Thursday – Study for spelling test and complete the sentences in Vocabulary workbook. These sentences are found on the first three pages of the unit. Friday – Spelling Test Vocabulary Homework – 2nd week Monday – Complete activities titled Choosing the Right Word, Synonyms, and Antonyms in Vocabulary workbook for the current unit. Tuesday – Complete activities titled Completing the Sentence and Vocabulary in Context in Vocabulary workbook for the current unit. Wednesday – Study for the Vocabulary test Thursday – Study for the Vocabulary test Friday – Vocabulary Test
