DPES 2010-19 Search for Part Time Environmental Science Lecturer

When I agreed to become Chair of DPES, the Dean agreed to provide funding for a part
time lecturer to cover my teaching for three years. I now have formal approval to
advertise for such a position. A Part Time Lecturer is a teaching position that does not
exceed 75% of full time employment. A 75% teaching load for a Lecturer in
Environmental Science is 2.5 full course equivalents (five half courses) plus service. As
per University Policy the initial appointment must be one year in duration, and may be
renewed annually.
The hiring process for Part Time Lecturer is considerably less formal than other
academic appointments. Professors George Arhonditsis and Carl Mitchell have agreed
to serve with me on the selection committee. Candidate visits are not required but the
committee may choose to go this route depending on the candidate pool. I anticipate a
January 1, 2011 start date.
We will begin reviewing applications after November 1. I have appended the job
description to this memo. This will be posted on the departmental Website and will be
posted on CAGLIST, a list server for Canadian Geographers. Please feel free to

Part Time Lecturer Position in Environmental Science
The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences, University of Toronto
Scarborough, seeks to fill a part time (75%) lecturer position, commencing January 1
2011 and ending December 31, 2011 with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants should have teaching experience in climatology, climate change and climate
change impact assessment and must be able to teach courses in these areas. The
successful candidate will teach two and half full course equivalents (75% teaching load)
and should have a Ph.D. in Climatology or a closely related field, or be close to
completion. Candidates must have a record of excellent quality teaching. Salary will be
commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This competition is open until the position is filled. The search committee will begin
